Capcom's always-on DRM takes a seat for Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online

In an effort to prevent issues within tournament environments, and maybe just learning from previous mistakes – Capcom has decided that including their always-on DRM with 3rd Strike Online would be a mistake. I think every one can agree, it would be a huge one. In an effort to prevent ‘game sharing’ amongst PSN users, Capcom has previously used this method of DRM to require users to always be logged into PSN. If you didn’t have an internet connection you simply could not play the game you paid for. Games like Final Fight and Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 both utilize this method of protection. If you’re interested in 3rd Strike Online, Eventhubs has an interview up with Christian ‘Sven’ Svennson in which he elaborates a little on this decision, as well as other things related to the game. Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online comes out August 23rd on PSN, and August 24th on Xbox Live. It’ll cost you a solid $15, and weighs in at 600 megabytes.
