Call Of Duty: Black Ops 3 Review | Paint it Black Again

Black Ops 3

With a flick of a wrist you can command a swarm of Nano bees to eliminate ongoing waves of robots attacking you. Your solider can run on walls, slide between robots during combat, and most importantly steal the opponent’s memories from their very own mind. With the option of a co-op campaign, multiplayer and zombies, this Call of Duty is the most gratifying experience you’ll ever get from the Black Ops series.

The traditional, 6-hour campaign in Black Ops 3 starts off with a lot of commotion; you touch down on a mission to rescue the captured captives but only for the mission to end with a gory torture scene that keeps you on the edge of your seat.

Originality

The campaign takes place 40 years after the events of Black Ops II in 2065. At that time in the world, wars are fought behind enemy lines and military technology has advanced to where robotics have pivotal roles in combat. Human soldiers have come to a point where they’re literally considered more of a machine than flesh and blood. The DNI, which stands for “Direct Neural Interface,” is a type of technology that helps humans mentally and remotely connect with other people, computers, and weapons. This presents new abilities and restrictions for the player’s use. Want to tap in and find out how this enemy hacked the computer system? Simply hack into his DNI pull all the valuable information and use it to your benefit. But it can also work against you in many ways. Want to pick up a gun an enemy dropped? You can’t because it’s registered to someone else’s DNI.

What the player ends up doing during the entire Black Ops 3 campaign is fight waves of robots and drones. It is somewhat fun thanks to the three upgrades that are available to your disposal. You can hack, destroy and blow the robots up whenever you feel like it.

Entertainment

This all leads into two very exciting missions and by the third and fourth mission, everything is pretty repetitive. Missions start to feel like sluggish and slow. All you do is lock, load, and shoot. The disappointing part was that I didn’t feel a bond with the characters. I couldn’t feel their pain and, most importantly, there was no depth to them. The campaign doesn’t offer anything remarkable to the series, but still has a very rewarding ending that’ll make you forget how slow and painful it really was.

Replayability

What Treyarch really excels in, helping you forget the campaign, is its solid takes on multiplayer. The fluid movement of its specialists, the intricately detailed maps, and accessibility to special powers and weapons makes it an unforgettably positive experience. A fan favorite that’s back is the 10-class system from Black Ops ll, where you can have 10 customizable classes that are ready for your needs whenever you need them. We’re also introduced to a new momentum based system in Black Ops 3, which allows the player to use thruster packs to preform a slew of movements. Players can run on walls, slide thru combat, while they still have complete gun control.

The game changer for this Call of Duty is the “specialist.” Having 9 different specialists is a huge spin for players who can choose from special abilities, skills, and weapons and customize them to their needs. I personally haven’t experienced a huge change from specialist to specialist. They aren’t deal breakers in the game and you could still win based on your skill and load out. If you’ve played any multiplayer games in the Black Ops series and play this one, you’ll feel right at home with the familiar controls.

Black Ops 3 is a well-rounded game that doesn’t take the series forward. Its packed with a solid multiplayer experience and an okay campaign, but it is loaded with a ton of content that’ll surely keep its fans busy and happy.
