BlizzCon 2013 | Hearthstone to Enter Open Beta Next Month…ish

BlizzCon 2013 began today and featured about fifteen or so minutes of Hearthstone talk.

The developer recalled the project’s history, from its quiet beginnings and skeptical views to the hundreds upon hundreds of logged hours during the in-house alpha and highly popular closed beta. Blizzard made two big announcements concerning the game’s future. While they didn’t announce a proper release date for Hearthstone, they did say that the game will enter an open beta starting next month. Or, in Blizzard terms as Rob Pardo, Blizzard Entertainment’s Chief Creative Officer, said, by January.

The game’s closed beta has come under scrutiny from fans due to its limited access for opt-ins and favoritism towards giveaways. Thankfully, all of that will come to an end relatively soon and players can get their anxious hands on the collectible card game.

During the Hearthstone portion of the opening ceremonies, Pardo mentioned how the developers enjoy playing the game on their tablets, but also mentioned that not everyone owns a tablet. Do you know what most people own? A smartphone. That led into the announcement of the game being developed for both iPhone and Android devices, the latter of which received a huge cheer.

Hearthstone is being developed for Windows, OS X, iPad, iPhone, and Android devices.
