Something new Baldur's Gate related sorta announced!

Stop the presses! There is NEWS! There is something new at www.baldursgate.com. There’s not much there other than the classic skull, the audio theme playing in the background, Alundo’s prophecy about the Bhaalspawn, and a background of the NPCs from Baldur’s Gate 1. If you check the source code of the page, earlier there was a line that read:

Shadowy Figure- Raise Dead : Infinity Engine
For years, I clung to the memory of it. Then the memory of the memory.
And then… it returned. Better than it was before.
Pore over the tapestries and works of art hanging from our walls if you wish, Child of Bhaal… perhaps you will find a clue. But patience, ah… patience would reveal it all.
As the silver moon waxes and wanes, so too does life.

It now reads:

Take heart fellow adventurers, for you have curried the favor of Boo, the only miniature giant space hamster in the Realm!
I can teach you how to use your wrath.

Allow me to attempt to decipher this for you. The Infinity Engine is the engine Baldur’s Gate is built on. The second line refers to the years its been. “Then it returned, better than before.” An HD remake, perhaps? “Works of art hanging from our walls”, this could mean the wallpaper, which currently has portraits of the NPCs from the first game. “Patience would reveal it all” I suppose this means that all will be revealed in time. And in the current line, Boo is, of course, Minsc the ranger’s companion. The awesome miniature giant space hamster. So nothing concrete yet, but enough to speculate.

It’s been eleven years since the expansion for Baldur’s gate 2, Throne of Bhaal, has been released. Eleven years. That’s a long time, eternity in the gaming world. I had given up on anything more from Baldur’s Gate, resigned to the fact that Dragon Age is the spiritual successor. But now! There’s hope! If you listened to my interview with David Gaider from Bioware, you’d know I’m a huge fan of the Baldur’s Gate series, having dumped hundreds of hours into it during High School and College. It introduced me to modding, and the idea of a huge open world. A lot of new ideas from one game.

I asked David Gaider if he has any information about what this might be, but he said he didn’t have any more information. So for now, this is all we know. Something Baldur’s Gate related is coming in the future, and that’s pretty exciting if you ask me. Stay tuned and we’ll keep you posted with any information as we receive it.
