Art Director Nate Wells Joins Crystal Dynamics

Nate Wells, the former Art Director at both Irrational Games and Naughty Dog, will now be lending his creative and atheistic touch to Crystal Dynamics

Following the studio’s announcement via Twitter, Wells confirmed the announcement himself, expressing gratitude and excitement in joining the development team behind Tomb Raider. Speaking of which, the studio is currently hard at work on a sequel, Rise of the Tomb Raider, which is set to release sometime late next year. It’s also been confirmed that the sequel will be a timed Xbox One exclusive, which initially led to an outcry among many PlayStation gamers.

Wells joined the industry back in 1996 as part of Looking Glass Studios. Three years later, the artist moved on to Irrational Games and helped craft the worlds of Rapture and Colombia in BioShock and BioShock Infinite respectively. Then, once the latter game was under wraps, Wells joined Naughty Dog and lent aid in the studio’s ambitious post-apocalyptic title, The Last of Us.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Wells also hopped around between smaller studios this past year, Missing Presumed Drowned and Giant Sparrow, specifically.

For now, it’s safe to say that his future and his work are secured under Crystal Dynamics and we can only hope that his work shines in their upcoming titles.
