Review
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: the Game has been out for PsN for a couple of weeks now. I’ve heard fellow gamers say that it’s super hard at the start and there is a lack of online co-op that makes this game not as good as it could have been.
I could have gotten it for PsN and already played and beaten it by now but I enjoy getting achievements, so I waited for the XBL release. Scott Pilgrim was once an exclusive only to Sony but somehow that ended up being a timed exclusive.
The opening sequence reminds me of Mega Man for some reason. This could be because it’s a classic 8-bit game or the retro gaming music and even the character select screen is straight out of Super Mario Bros 2. This game screams classic gaming all the way and hopefully many gamers will be able to point out all of the references.
At the start of the game its pretty much punch and kick until you start leveling up. With each new level, Scott, or the character that you chose to play, will learn a new move.
With the D-pad, you can walk your character but unfortunately, this feels a bit sluggish. It’s best to just use the analog stick to move your character around in a run. Walking seems and feels very slow.
Losing all of your lives will require you to start the level from the very beginning. I wish it was more like Double Dragon, where you can continue right where you died. Thankfully the character that you picked to play with keeps their loot and level. If you find the first level to be hard, keep playing and get your character to a higher level.
The game is fun but very repetitive. By the third level I found myself bored and wanting to play a different game. Online co-op should have been a feature for Scott Pilgrim. You’re able to play as different characters and play offline, so why not add the feature to play with your XBL/PsN friends?
Playing offline co-op is a lot of fun. A good feature is that if you fall, your friends are able to revive your character before you have to use one of your lives. You only have a certain amount of seconds to reach your fallen friend.
I did run into a glitch while playing 2-player co-op. During the fourth board, after killing everyone on the screen we were still unable to move on which was a huge pain especially after reaching almost the end of the level. Thankfully after punching the sides of the screen, the villain that needed to be killed was and we moved on. I then decided to pause the game to type this paragraph up and as I went to restart the game, it froze.
Although a fun game to play with friends, certain parts of the game are a bit laggy. Take for instance when you walk into a store to buy an item. It takes a few seconds after buying an item before allowing you to either choose another item or to leave the store. Single player is fun but it can get repetitive and boring after a while.
If you are a fan of the movie and comic, as well as classic retro games, then I say give this game a go. Keep in mind that it is hard and it can get old playing single player but if you have friends nearby, it can be a lot of fun.
Saving...

Just want to add that after playing co-op I went back today to play single player and its not fun anymore. Co-op is the way to go for this game. A HUGE shame that there isn’t online co-op.
it makes me sad that I’m so completely broke
