Unreal Engine 4 Free for Students and Schools

I’ve kept a close eye on the Unreal Engine 4 (UE4) long before it became available publicly at this years Game Developer Conference (GDC-2014), for a nominal fee of $20.00 (USD). The unreal engine is beautiful and powerful, and  gives indie game developers like myself an opportunity to create games on a similar level as fully-funded studios.

E3 2012 | Unreal Engine 4: Elemental Demo

In what has to be a tech demo representation of the common phrase thrown around in Game of Thrones; ‘winter is coming’. Epic Games have released something that has everyone starting off cold but ends up making them hot.

Attention Mass Effect 3 players. Have you finished the campaign mode for Mass Effect 3? Are you done playing the game? Wait just a second. BioWare’s Operation Exorcist Weekend begins tomorrow, Friday April 27th at 6:00PM PST until Monday April 30th at 5:00AM PST.

On the BioWare forums it says:

The Gears of War 3 Limited Edition Console Details And Hi-Res Images

Gears of War 3 is a big deal. So big, that Microsoft is bringing back the limited edition custom consoles we’ve last seen for Halo: Reach.

Using the Xbox 360 S hardware, this is a full-console design, not just a faceplate or accent the old Xbox 360 custom consoles saw. The console and controllers have a killer Gear logo that looks to be corrupt, in much the same way the locust have become corrupted as the series has gone on.

The bundle retails at $399 and gives you the following:

Themed Xbox 360 S which includes custom Gears of War sound effects for the eject and power buttons A 320 GB hard drive Two themed wireless controllers with the new twist-able D-Pad A [...]

Z-Live: Gears of War 3 Beta

I must admit, I’m not a real gears fan…I have gears of war one AND two in my gaming chest, barely touched. I’ve played about one stage through the campaign on Gears one, and only two multiplayer matches on Gears two, so I’m really not a Gears of war fan….. or at least I wasn’t until now.

Gears of War 3 is faster and incredibly pleasing. I find myself enjoying the weapons, character models, AND stages ALOT more than I did in the original gears. I decided to record my first session of GOW3 and show it to the world along with the man who gave me the beta code to play, Mr. Hard8Times himself. Much love,… and enjoy the [...]

Artist meets Gamer: Interview with Pixel Painter Francis Gordon

I, DefyAllLogic (Tavia) of The Game Fanatics, had a chance to e-meet and interview artist Francis Gordon.

Francis is an international pixel artist. Unlike most pixel artists, Francis doesn’t use a computer. He creates his grids using a regular pencil and maps out his colors by eye. Once he’s gridded, mapped, and outlined, he paints neatly within the lines with oils or acrylics and a paint brush.

When he’s finished there are beautiful pop-art paintings depicting some of 8-bit gaming’s favorite characters.

Gold painting from Pokémon Gold, Silver and Crystal (1999, 2000). Oil on [...]

New Gears of War 3 Screens & Art

Epic Games have let some new photos out. We have some below but you get over at Joystiq.

They look pretty awesome and the recent trailer and news on the new additions to the game was great to hear, since there has been a split amongst fans on the series for the Xbox 360.

Expect more at E3 next week!

Thanks, Joystiq!
