Review
The CM Storm Inferno Gaming Mouse is a mouse designed specifically with FPS and MMO gamers in mind. “Armed with a 4000 DPI twin laser sensor, 128kb of onboard Sentinel-X memory and the brand new Storm Tactics Multiplayer key, [it] will evoke your killer instinct.”
This behemoth of a device has so many cool features that figuring out where to start is a challenge in and of its own. The Inferno is a very solid mouse, ergonomically designed and built with incredibly intuitive features, which we’ll go into later in the review. I suggest you watch the trailer below (yes, this mouse is so full of awesomesauce it gets its own trailer).
The Inferno is manufactured by CM Storm, the gaming branch of Cooler Master, and comes with the bells and whistles that’s to be expected of a well-designed gaming peripheral. The first out-of-the-box impression you get is the sleek, ergonomic design balanced with a mixture of a black matte body and touches of a glossy accent. Plug in the nylon braided, gold-plated USB and the mouse literally comes to life with a “breathing” illumination profile and a red glow.
Next you’ll notice the buttons, 11 of them to be exact, and nine of them are fully programmable. On top of the mouse you’ll also notice a hexagonal button, which would fast become your best friend because it switches mouse profiles on the go. Now for clarification purposes, The Inferno comes with a bundled software that allows to to create up to 3 different profiles, fully customized with specific DPI’s, macros, and even illumination customization, and it has an onboard Sentinel-X (128KB) to store them in. Now if you’re following along, that hexagonal button I mentioned earlier allows you to switch between these profiles on the fly, meaning you don’t even have to ALT-TAB away from your current game or application. Within reach of your thumb are three buttons- your standard forward and back buttons (very useful for power browsers) and the furthest away from your thumb, which is dubbed the “Storm Tactics” button. This button will prove to be especially useful to hardcore gamers because combined with the other buttons on the mouse it allows you to execute macros and/or scripts that you’ve predefined. My favorite button of all is the Rapid Fire button (or as I like to call it, the double-click button), located on top of the left-click button. “This tactical key is one click away from a load of sustaining fire, giving you the utmost edge to frag your opponents and stay alive in all combat situations.” When not gaming, I simply used this button in place of double-clicking; you’d be surprised how fulfilling you feel after saving that extra click! A problem I’ve often had with other mice is the middle button getting worn out or even getting stuck in the mouse. I had no such issues with the Inferno. The middle button is quite chunky and feels oh so right as you scroll up and down and/or click it.
Now let me be the first to assure you that if all of the tools noted in this review seem daunting to the casual user, the Inferno does not take a rocket scientist to configure. The fact that it works right out of the box is a plus, but if the need arises, customization of the different mouse settings is a breeze once you get the hang of it.
Overall, the CM Inferno Gaming Mouse was created with precision and attention to detail. Everything from the smooth rubber grips around the mouse down to the gold-plated USB chord was designed with perfection. The mouse fits snuggly inside your hands, and the ability to switch profiles, or simply increase or decrease DPI on the fly gives it a huge boost in functionality. The buttons are incredibly intuitive and easy to program if you choose to not use the standard settings. The Inferno gets extra points in design for the front grille and the logo on the back plate which light up along with the middle mouse button. All-in-all I had no qualms or complaints throughout the 3 1/2 weeks (and counting) that I’ve used the device. The Inferno is available for $60, and comes with a 1 year warranty.

Con: no thumb ball
It depends on what floats your boat, the thumb ball is not needed on the Inferno in my opinion.
This thing looks like a monster!

I am using powerlogic GMX-5 gaming mouse (class 1 laser mouse). Do I need to have any software program to configure the added two buttons on the still left of the mouse, for playing video games like DoTA? The product did not arrive with any software at the time of purchase. Thanks in advance.
I’m planning to buy a logitech gaming mouse. About 50- 70 dollars. I was just wondering how much does a gaming mouse help in comparison to my standard Dell mouse. As for most CS players, I will be using the AWP, M4, and AK the most.
Thanks.
