Review

Let’s get one thing clear; I hope this series never ends. Say what you will about it, but it’s one of the most fun series ever committed to film, and brains be damned, these films will keep you smiling throughout. Nothing has changed with the latest entry into the bunch, and in fact, I would dare say this is possibly the best in the series.

I don’t want to go to deeply into the story as I found this movie to be even better simply because I avoided learning as much as I could about it before seeing it and as such, there were plenty of surprises that I just didn’t see coming as a fan of the series.

What I will SPOIL for you is some of the action because quite frankly, this film has some really amazing action sequences, and most of it is practical, which makes it even more spectacular. The film opens with an awesome breakout that leaves any laws of gravity firmly checked at the door, and in fact breaks most laws outside of inertia. The next action sequence finds our friends tearing up the streets of Rio as they try and escape “very welcomed” newcomer Dwayne Johnson, whom is quite literally a perfect fit into this d*ck swinging contest of a film series. There are at least three more action scenes and all of them are worthy of being discussed but I don’t want to ruin anything else. I will say that the final sequence is going to rock your face off and the fact is the entire ending is easily some of the best writing in the series…and believe it or not, smartest!

And I’m going to wrap this up by saying something that none of you will believe unless you see it for yourself. Also, you need to watch the first four films to understand why what happens is so huge…but Fast 5 EASILY has the best after credit bonus scene EVER PUT ON FILM! Period! The surprise appearances and storyline’s that are set up for Fast 6 are quite literally some of the most awesome cameo’s I’ve seen in a film, and I absolutely didn’t see any of it coming…bravo Justin Lin for moving up the chain to rest soundly in my top 10 favorite directors out there right now. Between this series and his guest stint as the director of some of the best episodes of the hit sitcom COMMUNITY, Justin Lin is very quickly proving himself an amazing director, and one that is not a fluke.

Bottom line;  See the film.  Just go as soon as you can, cuz it rocks, and it rocks hard.
