Soundcheck: ASAP Rocky, Kendrick Lamar, MGK, Macklemore, and more in Saints Row 4

The Saints Row 4 soundtrack features a wide array of artists, from the Clown Prince of Hip-Hop – Biz Markie, to Macklemore, the prince of the Thrift Shop. From the mellow classical tunes of Beethoven and Tchaikovsky to the crazy synth sounds of Diplo and the raw crooning of Aerosmith.

In a recent Complex exclusive, details surrounding the music in Saints Row 4 were revealed, where audio designer, Brandon Bray talked a bit about the music licensing process surrounding the game:

[We] look at what will be popular and what will be released by the time our game comes out. We’re looking at licensing tracks eight months away from release. We’re trying to figure out, ‘Well, what’s going to be popular? What’s going to be good eight months from now?’

We’ve been playing Saints Row 4 for a while now, and while we can’t share much about the game, we can talk about the eclectic music you’ll find. There are 7 radio stations, most of which you’d recognize if you played Saints Row 2 and Saints Row: The Third, though we’re sad to not see the return of Sizzurp FM and The Khronic. New to the airwaves is 106.9 Mad Decent ( Rap Game Rave Killah), props for the Riff Raff track.

You can make a mixtape of different songs from among the 7 different radio stations, and like in previous Saints Row games you can disable certain radio stations from playing altogether.

Aside from BET-nominated Best New Artist, ASAP Rocky, the new face of Compton, Kendrick Lamar (who actually won Best New Artist along with other accolades), MGK, Macklemore, Paula Abdul, Biz Markie, Cypress Hill, Awolnation, Neon Trees, Papa Roach, Aerosmith, Outkast, Montell Jordan, and more fill up the track list of one of the most diverse, non-music games we’ve seen in a long time.

If you aren’t excited by the caliber of artists in Saints Row 4, you should be, with a list of A-list artists like these, you’re bound to have a blast riding around Steelport causing some f#cking problems.
