Watch Out For Quan Chi in Mortal Kombat X

Raiden, Sub-Zero, Kano, Scorpion and a couple of new faces are surely shaping up the official roster for Mortal Kombat X. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment however has decided to add another character to the bone-crushing, blood spilling fighting spectacle. His name? Quan Chi, a visceral sorcerer and primary villain in the MK Universe.

Revealed in a special gameplay trailer today, Quan Chi is shown to be a very evil, yet tactical fighter that likes to utilize a lot of different spell-oriented attacks in order to obliterate his enemies. In this particular video showcase, there are three fighting styles that Quan Chi players can take on: Warlock, Summoner and Sorcerer.

In addition to some heavy hand-to-hand combos, Summoner Quan Chi calls the help of some pretty ghastly beasts from the Neatherrealm. Creatures such as the bird in the trailer help catch opponents off-guard while the master manipulator himself goes in for the kill.

Under the Sorcerer preset, Quan Chi uses his spells to enhance his attacks and weaken his enemies. Part of his offensive arsenal also includes the use of environments for advantage. Throwing a barrel or pounding his foe’s head to ground are just few of the many tricks up the sleeve.

Finally, the Warlock edition looks to be the most satisfying as portals are used to create endless combos and to keep the opponent guessing. Quan Chi can thrust a sword into one portal and the sword would then reappear out of another portal from behind the opponent and secure a sneaky stab in their sweet spot.

Warner Bros. also go into some of Quan Chi’s background in regards to the Mortal Kombat X universe. Since he’s a manipulator, he’ll often align with others who he thinks will be aides to his supreme end game or he may go as far as actually manipulating them with his powers, setting them out to do his bidding. He and Kano have much history. Seeing as how they are both villains, it’ll be interesting to see if they either work together or literally try to bust brains out of each other. The trailer released today shows the latter.

Mortal Kombat X is set to release for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and for PC on April 15, 2015. You can check out Quan Chi’s abilities in it’s full glory in the video below.
