Is the Mass Effect Trilogy Ready to Assimilate the Current Generation?

With one simple tweet, the gaming community erupts. With a slight mention of the possibility of the Mass Effect series heading to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the masses flock to their keyboards to share their thoughts. And this series of text will do the same. Is it too soon to see the Mass Effect Trilogy on the current generation of gaming systems? Yes, Mass Effect is loved by many. The series gave gamers a mixture of feels when they combined RPG elements with aspects from a shooter so naturally even a hint of remastering all three Mass Effect games is enough to stir the gaming community.

The first Mass Effect game came out in 2007 with the final installment in 2012. It is hard to believe that the Mass Effect game to start it all was launched seven years ago. To some, that is a long time. However Mass Effect 3 is only two years old. Now granted, if Bioware and EA go through on this venture, we might not see a polished version of the Mass Effect series for another three to five years. After all, the Mako could use an overhaul and there are some thing about the original Mass Effect that we could do without or could be made better.

Some Bioware fans will argue that a remastered version of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic should get the shiny treatment before Mass Effect does. This would be fantastic, however a tricky project to take. The second KotOR game wasn’t in the hands of Bioware, but with Obsidian. Seeing a Mass Effect remastered version is more likely than a Knights of the Old Republic one. Would a remaster or a sequel to Jade Empire be a better course of action? Should we just leave the past in the past and move forward? We already know there’s a new Mass Effect game in the works as well as the third Dragon Age game. Should Bioware stop looking over their shoulder to polish up what was or concentrate on what could be? Bring gamers the next great story-drive adventure instead of trying to relive the past?
