CES 2014 | CyberPowerPC's Steam OS Game Console Unveiled

Following the news that 12 companies are working on Steam OS consoles, CyberPower Inc came right out and unveiled their version of the Steam Machine at CES 2014 today.

CyberPowerPC‘s announcement already answers one big question right off the bat: that being “how much will these things cost?” by listing their two models at $499 and $699. The base model Steam Machine has a 2GB Radeon R9 270 graphics card, 8 GB of RAM, your standard connectivity options (Bluetooth, WiFi, USB 3.0) and a Steam Controller, with an AMD 3.9GHz A6 CPU.

The more high-end model comes with everything the base does, except with a more powerful processor (3.5GHz Core i3) and a better graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760), but of course also costs $200 more.

These aren’t the be-all, end-all stats, though, as you’ll be able to customize every aspect of your machine when you order online. The Steam Machines run off the new Steam OS, which is a version of Linux specially designed by Valve to run as the base operating system for Valve’s foray into console gaming – or perhaps a better way to put it, a hybrid of console and PC gaming.
