Saints Row IV Denied in Australia

Saints Row IV fans down under will have to import the Saints this summer if they want to play as the President of the United States.

Saints Row IV is the first game to receive the Refused Classification mark under the Guidelines for Classification of Computer Games in Australia. These new set of guidelines took effect back in January of this year. Saints Row IV is so raunchy that it was denied due to the content of drugs and sexual violence. Australia’s new classification system takes a look at those games that would be rated 18+ and decides if retailers in Australia will be able to sell that particular game. Saints Row IV is the first game that has been denied under these guidelines. Time to import!

Australian Government Classification Board Media Release:

The Acting Director of the Classification Board Mr Donald McDonald announced today that Saints Row IV was the first computer game in Australia to be Refused Classification under the Guidelines for the Classification of Computer Games that commenced on 1 January 2013.

The Classification Board classified the game RC (Refused Classification) in accordance with item 1(a) of the National Classification Code and in accordance with the computer games guidelines.

In the Board’s opinion, Saints Row IV, includes interactive, visual depictions of implied sexual violence which are not justified by context. In addition, the game includes elements of illicit or proscribed drug use related to incentives or rewards. Such depictions are prohibited by the computer games guidelines.
