E3 2013 | The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD Launches in October

A popular Nintendo classic is getting a facelift for the Wii U. The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD was showcased in today’s Nintendo Direct. During the presentation, Nintendo President and CEO Satoru Iwata showed off some more of the upscaled Gamecube classic, as well as when we can expect it: The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD will hit stores this October. Iwata says the game will display in full 1080p HD, using “shaders that improve visuals and refine textures,” like character expressions.

It looks really, really good.

Unfortunately, not much else was shared about the game, except for a revamp of the original’s Tingle Tuner, which will allow you to post messages in the Miiverse that will then show up in other players’ games as a note in a bottle that washes ashore. Kinda cute.

Nintendo did not release a price, nor did they reveal any further information about the next Zelda game, which is being built from the ground up for the Wii U. Nor did they go into any details on the Link to the Past sequel coming to 3DS, disappointingly. Hopefully we’ll get that info sooner rather than later, but until then, watch the trailer a couple more times.
