Report: Next Xbox Named "Infinity," Featues Touch Controllers

We know the next Xbox will be unveiled on May 21st, but it seems Forbes also knows what the system will be called. Forbes is reporting that the next Xbox console won’t be called the 720, as fans have so dubbed the Xbox 360′s predecessor, but instead there are rumors it’ll be named “Infinity,” springboarding off the idea of “Infinite Entertainment, Infinite Possibilities.”

This intel comes from “a source in Washington” that says the Xbox Infinity will come with touch panels on the controllers, much like what the PS4‘s new controllers will feature, as well as the all-but-confirmed “always on” required internet connection that former Microsoft employee Adam Orth so famously flaunted a few weeks back.

Apparently the touch area, which will apparently work with Kinect, will also be capable of acting as a replacement D-pad, which is certainly different. We’ve already heard rumors that Kinect will be packed in with every console (which IGN is reporting will have two separate prices: $500 straight-up, $300 with a two-year Xbox LIVE subscription), so the idea of having something on the controller to compliment Kinect makes sense.

Keep in mind this is all still speculation for now. Regardless, Microsoft‘s not saying much either way:

“We’re excited to share more about the new generation of games, TV and entertainment on May 21, but have nothing further to share at this time.”
