What We Played January 27 – February 2

Welcome to Press Start (What We Played)! This is a weekly segment that dives into what we here at The Game Fanatics have played during this past week. What did you game?

Jen: Played the newest episode of Spartan Ops in Halo 4 this week. didn’t play much Halo after that. Trying to work on an achievement in Bejeweled Blitz Live on XBLA, so I’ve been playing that late at night before falling asleep. Got my 3DS out again for some TheAtRhythm Final Fantasy. I’ve been working on the Chaos Shrine part. Played a lot of my Sith in SWTOR and very little of my Trooper. I’m starting to think that my Sith will hit level 50 before my Trooper.

Darrin: I’ve been getting schooled in the Crysis 3 beta — but it’s still plenty fun. It’s my first experience with the Crysis franchise, but I can see myself picking it up. Also started another playthrough of The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword, in anticipation of the HD remake of Wind Waker coming later this year.

Jeff: I made a goal last week that I would finish Mass Effect 2. 27 hours later, I did. Shaping my way through BioWare‘s ambitious space opera is great fun. Now onto the controversial Mass Effect 3.

Greg: More Fallout New Vegas. Found some new mods to try out. Tweaked the graphics a bit, looks absolutely amazing. Seriously. The Mojave looks incredible. Tons more guns, bounties. PC > Console. Advantage: Better graphics, mods, customization options. Also more Borderlands 2. Currently working on a co-op Commando and solo Mechromancer (Dischord based).

William: Ni No Kuni blitz, and then back to X-COM. Ni No Kuni was good, but had some real problems with the AI. Nothing about that game bothered me more than Esther not doing what I explicitly told her to do. Much facepalm. That aside though, story, art, and music were all done very well. X-COM is excellent too. I love me some tactics games, and I’ve been getting weirdly into my squad… more on that later…

Nick: I’m taking a crack at Two Worlds, a lesser known multiplatform action RPG from 2007. I had heard it was a very deep game but had terrible graphics/framerate issues. In a sense, playing a game like this not only makes me grateful for the Elder Scrolls and Mass Effects out there, but also that putting a good game together requires more than we as gamers can fathom. But on the other side of the coin, is there something in this game that has been yet to be explored in large budget titles? Ugly as it seems on the surface, Two Worlds is still a game, so there’s something in there worth discovering (assuming it was made by people who played games). I’ll have more to share on this soon, assuming I can stick with the Google Translate-like dialogue and poor maps interface.Chris: With the Super Bowl dominating every thing, I played Madden 13 as usual but stuck with the 2 teams playing in the big game in my online match ups. The more I play this edition of Madden, the more eager I am to see what kind of improvements EA can come up with for next years game. At least the 49ers can win the Har-Bowl when I’m Kaepernicking with my controller.Chris: With the Super Bowl dominating every thing, I played Madden 13 as usual but stuck with the 2 teams playing in the big game in my online match ups. I also have tackled a few rounds of King of Fighters 2002 Ultimate Match on Xbox Live Arcade. Since it is an older title in the Xbox Live Arcade library there are not a lot of players online. However, the ones that are still playing this game are scary good, owning me at every turn but it makes great practice. KOF 2002 is also one of the most fun and well balanced 2D-Fighters that can be found on the Xbox 360.
