The Game Fanatics at Dragon*Con Aug 31 – Sept 3, 2012!

Sure, Comic-Con may be over, but everyone knows that the San Diego Comic-Con is just warm up for the big boy’s .  You guessed, it. It’s Dragon*Con!

Held in Atlanta every year, the convention has grown rapidly over the last decade or so.  Are you going to be there? The Fanatics sure will!

Both myself, the handsome TGF_Seth, and  TGF_Andrew will be attending the conference covering as much of the convention as we can.  We’ll be bringing a new feature to The Game Fanatics called The Board Game Fanatics in which we’ll cover the coolest board games we can find and break it down for you.

There are also lots of video game related events at Dragon*Con this year that include CCP Games, Bioware, and Riot Games meet and greets, along with The World of Darkness and Star Wars: The Old Republic events.

It’s going to be a busy weekend for the two of us, but it should be a blast! We’ll be on Twitter (here and here) and writing articles the whole time. Got an event you want covered? Know of a board game you want info on? Let us know on Twitter and on the comments below!

  2. Last year, my sister was given Disney Trivial Pursuit – the board game. I got well and truly bored after only playing it tiwce. I had answered every question correctly and found it wasn’t really testing my knowledge of Disney movies. So I thought I’d set up a little competition on here just for fun. The questions are all Disney related, but particularly link to the semi-parody film Enchanted and its cast. The basic rule of this game is that the first person to answer all of the questions below correctly within the next week will get the points. Good luck!

    1. Was Judy Kuhn in the movie Enchanted? If so, who was she in the movie? Also, name another Disney movie she has been casted in.
    2. Was Jodi Benson in the movie? If she was, who was she? Who has she voiced in any disney movie and any other animated works?
    3. Was Angela Lansbury in the movie? If she was, who was she? What is her most recent Disney work?
    4. Was Julie Andrews in the movie? In what other Disney films has she been in – voice and live-action? Please list.
    5. Is the man who played Mr Fagin in the BBC’s latest adaptation of a Charles Dickens novel in it? Answer yes or no. You can provide information if you wish.
    6. Is anyone who has previously worked with Leonardo Dicaprio in this film?
    7. In what series of Disney films did the lead villainess star in back between 1975 and 2000? She may not have starred in all of the films, but she was in at least one of them, and some of the films in the series have been shown on British terrestrial TV this christmastime (2009).
    8. 11 and a half minutes into the film on the DVD, what well known musical can be seen over Giselle’s right shoulder?
    9. Is there an actual fairytale/story that is about a girl named Giselle which was not written by Disney? (You may have fun researching this one)
    10. Name five other famous chipmunks. not including Pip.

If you answer all of those questions correctly, you’ll be another disney super fanatic like me – and I’ll reward you with some well-earned points. Sorry if it’s hard, but that’s the point of it. In my comment, i’ll give the answers :)

    Good luck!

  3. learning more about national conventions I just want to know What important document is drawn-up at a convention and what is that document s purpose? If someone who truly knows this answer would respond I would appreciate the help!

  4. In March 2013 there is the Suzuki World Convention in Matsumoto, Japan. How could I find a family to stay with perhaps? What is the cheapest way to travel and stay there? What else should I do apart from the Convention.

  5. An interior designer quoted, in the cost estimate, the area of a wardrobe to be 63 sqft. The frontal dimensions of the finished wardrobe are 5′ x 9′. Based on experience with other interior designers, I was expecting the wardrobe to be 7′x9′ (=63sqft). I thought that’s the convention for costing a wardrobe by area.. measure the elevation width and height and multiply the two.

    Is this correct?

I am interested in renting a convention center for a convention this time next year.. I was looking at several convention centers but I have no idea what the costs are and which are the best location wise.. How much does it usually cost to rent out a convention center for the weekend (all hidden prices included) and which do you like the best? Must be in Atlanta.

I want to watch all the speakers and what they have to say. So what time does the convention start tonight?

    Thanks

  8. Two great football fanatics, Andy and Stevie, were discussing the chances of football being played in Heaven. They couldn’t see how any self-respecting Heaven would not have football – but yet, they weren’t quite sure. Finally they agreed that the one who died first would come back and tell the other if they played football in Heaven or not.

Not long afterwards, Andy was run over by a bus and killed. On the night after the funeral, when Stevie was asleep, a vision of Andy appeared to him. Andy was wearing a long white robe, but Stevie noticed immediately that he had football boots on.

“So they do play football there!” he exclaimed, sitting up in bed.

“Yes,” said the vision. But do you want the good news first or the bad news?”

    “Oh, the good news.”

“The good news is they have the most fantastic football sides here. There’s more footballers here than you might think. And the angels love the game too. We play in the Heavenly League.” “Well, that’s great,” said Stevie. “What can the bad news be?”

“The bad news is I saw your name on the board for next Sunday’s game.”
