Kickstart The Future With Oculus VR Headset

3D VR Headsets have been attempted before, but the new Oculus Rift may be the first to get it right.Oculus founder Palmer Luckey was disappointed by commercially available VR headsets. He didn’t want to just watch the game, he wanted to feel as if he was inside the game. So, he decided to make one that did exactly that.

The Oculus Rift is a brand new VR device that gives users a true sense of being “plugged in.” It achieves this by displaying a 110-degree 3D field-of-vision and nearly 1:1 head motion tracking. When you turn your head in real life, you also turn your head in the game. If that sounds interesting, you’ll also be excited to hear that Oculus is aiming for the most affordable price point for gamers.

You can help fund the Oculus Rift by making a contribution to the company’s Kickstarter here. Donation rewards range from a thank you from the team to actually spending a day with them, but the most popular option may be the $300 reward. It will include an Oculus Rift dev kit, access to the software development kit, and a copy of Doom 3: BFG Edition which is already compatible with the Rift.

Developer support for the Rift already includes industry veterans and legends such as John Carmack, Cliff Bleszinski, and Gabe Newell.

“I think this will be the coolest way to experience games in the future. It will simply be that big.” –David Helgason, CEO of Unity

“It looks incredibly exciting. If anybody’s going to tackle this set of hard problems, we think that Palmer’s going to do it. So we’d strongly encourage gamers to support this Kickstarter.” –Gabe Newell, President of Valve
