Amazing New Trailer For Ang Lee’s ‘Life of PI’

Ang Lee has directed a few but there’s only one of which that I liked and that is Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.’ He’s directed other films like The Ice Storms,’ ‘,’ and, the that he is probably most known for, ‘Brokeback Mountain.’

Ang Lee has been out of the movie scene for some time now and I’m almost certain ‘Life of PI’ is the reason for his absence. The is simply beautiful. I could try and describe all the finer details to you guys but it’ll just be easier if you watch the below.

Life of Pi’ comes out 21st.

  1. I was under the impression that the movie would start being shown as of Oct 12, 2007. Searching high and low for Ottawa theatres that are or will be showing it has returned no answer, while I have been able to find some Toronto theatres showing the movie. Does it mean that conservative Ottawa will not be picking up this movie due to its NC-17 rating? If that’s the case, perhaps it means that I’ll have to go to Toronto in order to enjoy the latest offering from an excellent director/artist who’s always pushing the limits, and refuses to be intimidated by potentially controversial topics or means of exploration.

  2. (btw answer #1… “Chinese” is not a dialect)

I am learning mandarin & had a hard time understanding a lot of the film.. wasn’t sure if it was Cantonese, Suzhou, etc.

  3. I check imdb, the official release date of Lust Caution is Sept 28. 2007; however, there is a “limited” behind it. So i wonder if this movie will be in theater on Sept 28 in Connecticut?

    anyone knows it?

  4. The best editor of Oscar the year is Ang Lee .And do you know where he was born ?HongKong,Taiwan,or the MainLand?

  5. i watched the 2003 version the Hulk. I noticed a lot of elements that is not faithful to the Hulk comics. First of all, it didn’t have a villain. I also can’t tell if the U.S military or Bruce father is the enemy. It don’t seem like there a villain in that movie. Every superhero movie also start off with major villain and a lot of action. I read a lot of reviews saying that Ang lee seems like he didn’t read the element of the Hulk comics that is in that movie. Did Ang lee read those comics and also tell me what are that story based on that are in the movie? What is the difference between the Movie and the comics?
I only 10 years old guys i don’t know anything
i don’t know what going on in that movie. i just want to know
i want smart people to explain this
i get upset when people don’t provide accurately or show up with different answer

  6. I know I’m in the minority, but I was disappointed with “Spiderman”(I give it 3 outa 5 stars). As for “Hulk” it exceeded my expectations and is among my favorite movies.

  7. Usually last year’s best director presents this year’s winner. Where is he? Is he still miffed about the Academy snubbing Brokeback Mountain?

  8. The only words i can remember is “hey hey hey i know you can do it” and “whats going on, whats going on”.

  9. Normally I’d always say that films of books are never as good as the book itself; however, the film of Sense & Sensibility as directed by Ang Lee has become one of my favourite films of all time.

Also, I tend to find books of “classics” a bit difficult, just because of the way that use of language and social conventions have moved on since the time of writing. When I have to do a sort of “internal translation” to put a passage into a context I find more understandable, it disrupts the flow of the story. (This isn’t so hard with films as there are visual cues as well.)

For those that have read the book and seen the film: do you recommend that I read the book as well? Is there much in the book that doesn’t make it into the film (& I don’t mean in terms of plot, I’m thinking of the ability to see inside characters’ heads in books)? Or is this a rare instance of the film being better?
BTW, I’m not normally into romantic stuff, so the book would have to be REALLY good for me to read it…

The Chinese media praised Taiwan-born Ang Lee for his best director Oscar win but state TV cut part of his speech mentioning China, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

Brokeback Mountain will not be released in Chinese cinemas and can only been seen on pirate DVD.

The Chinese government refused to include it on a list of foreign films approved for domestic cinemas, a move that stops just short of an outright ban.

Hong Kong’s Apple Daily newspaper contrasted Lee’s success with China’s controls on popular culture.

“China cannot produce a director like Ang Lee,” it claimed. The paper praised the US for allowing creative freedom.

The 51-year-old director started out in film in his early 20s after graduating from the National Taiwan College of Arts.

  11. I have a directors assignment for a class, and need to know Ang Lee’s visual style. I’m having a hard time explaining what it is. He directed the first ‘Hulk’ in 2003. Any Opinions or read facts?

  12. Hi I’m korean

I recently watched the TV drama 公主小妹

I am wondering lee ang lim is popular in Taiwan compare to Fahrenheit memebrs

  13. Now that Ang Lee have won an Oscar for Best Director, and John Woo have bee admired Directors like Quentin Tarantino for his work in A Better Tomorrow(the sunglass, trench coat and double gun). Woo more of Hollywood’s notice with his 1989 HK movie The Killer with the slow mo, ballet style action(to jump fowardand shoot or jump to avoid getting shot), the double gun, the meaning life theme, and the relgion he believes in. from what I have learned when I took Asian American studies, all Asians don’t get too much offers, very good roles,or be in big budget movies as one of the maine roles. Even the American born ones don’t have much luck or good offers in Hollywood, like Michael Wong the brother of Rusell Wong(Romeo Must Die), he works in the HK movie biz and not Hollywood. But he was born here and grew up here in the U.S.. He don’t even speak Cantonese vey well in his movies most of the time it part Cantonse part English. Better chance is to go over to there even when one can read.

My word, what a terrible film. I watched parts of it on the Sci-Fi channel just now. It’s just hilariously bad. This guy made Crouching Tiger, and the studio was expecting some great, fantastic job out of him. They got possibly the worst movie ever made.

I don’t like Chinese movies in general either. If you thought American movies had too many cheesy special effects, they’ve got nothing on these guys.

  15. When Critics blasted the movie, what did Ang lee say about the movie and his attacks by people and critics? Did Ang lee know the action movies very well?

  16. Kate Winslet’s character plays it during the movie as well. The song that Elinore says was their father’s favorite.
It is also played by Kate Winslet’s character in the beginning of the movie… Emma Thompson’s character Elinore tells Edward (Hugh Grant) that it was their father’s favorite.

  17. Seriously, the Hulk movies don’t seem to get attention they deserve.

    Lee:
    Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
    Hulk (2003)
    Brokeback Mountain

    Leterrier:
    The Transporter
    The Incredible Hulk (2008)
    Clash of the Titans (2010)

BQ: Can you rate their movies?
BQ2: favorite movie by the one you like
BQ3: Who “nailed” Hulk better: Bana or Norton?
BQ4: Who “nailed” Hulk better: Lee or Leterrier?
BQ5: Did you fall asleep watching Hulk (2003)?

  18. I know that the limited release was on September 28th, but I live in a relatively rural area (of the US) and really, really want to see it! Does anyone know if and when it will be fully released?

  19. Which theater in Brisbane will have Ang Lee’s new movie Lust Caution? Or is it released yet? Is it released in the Soyh Bank Cineplex?
I live near milton, so can you guys provide any cinemas nearby to me? Thanks heaps!!
