In 1962 the Topps trading card company released a provocative set of cards detailing a martian invasion that was both a sensation with science fiction fans and controversial among said fans’ disapproving parents. This year marks the 50th anniversary of Mars Attacks (which inspired the 1996 Tim Burton movie) and Topps will be at Comic Con this year to celebrate.

Topps is going to be debuting a brand new commemorative line of trading cards celebrating Mars Attack’s “50 Years of Mayhem”, called Mars Attacks Heritage. The new set is said to include some classic images from the original line of cards. A plethora of Mars Attacks merch will also be at the con including IDW Publishing’s commemorative comic book series that released last week and sold out of all 55,ooo copies of its debut issue. In addition, tomorrow on Saturday Topps will have a Mars Attacks: 50 Years of Mayhem panel featuring Adam Levine from Topps and IDW’s Greg Goldstein discussing both the hit comic series and the forthcoming Heritage line of Mars Attacks cards. The panel is scheduled for tomorrow June 14 12:30 to 1:30p in Room 8 and features among its special guests, card artist Jason Edmiston. I am trying to find the name of the chair that was used in Mars Attacks when SJP is doing her interview, a white chair with black cloth interior with white dots. If I remeber correctly same type of chair was used in Men In Black when Will Smith is taking the test.

There is a major brouhaha going on in the northeast right now over a fishing report posted on a fishing website. The anti-report crowd are angry because they say the report leads to shoulder to shoulder fishing. The pro-report crowd says that no matter what the report says, people need to know how, and exactly where to fish, to catch.
Background: Shore-bound saltwater fisherman in the northeast target two species. Stripers and Bluefish, which are both migratory. Starting in early April the anticipation of the fishes arrival at a famous location, one that books have been written about, starts to grow. The big fish always arrive in May, or at the latest, the first new moon in June. Of course the exact day changes year to year, but it usually happens the last minus tides in May and lasts for 2-3 days. It’s a fish blitz, mayhem, every cast hooking up a 20-40 pound Striper.
Last Wednesday: a captain of a 26 foot boat that takes 4 clients out at a time, made the report. The capt puts in his time, he is not an amateur. He started marking fish a couple of weeks ago and predicted the day they would arrive in the famous location, and posted his opinion. On the day in question, he left his boat docked and surfcasted from shore and caught and released 50+ fish. That afternoon he posted his success.
Now, half the surfcasting community wants his head on the chopping block for tipping off lurkers that the fish have arrived.

I have had the same Strat knockoff for the past year and a half and i need a better guitar. Come on, is this really about cartoons? They’re rampaging and burning flags. They’re looking for Europeans to kidnap. You don’t really need a reason. You just need an excuse. I know and understand that these bloodthirsty murderers do not represent the majority of the world’s Muslims. When, though, do they become outraged? What I heard is a lot of Pro Wrestling Fans said that Bret Hart was wasted big time during his time in WCW. They also said Bret Hart didn’t get what he deserved and his WCW years was terrible. And not just the Fans thought so, WWE also did. In their latest Top 50 WCW Superstars of all time, WWE ranked Bret Hart on 41st.
I agree that Bret Hart’s WCW career might not be as great as his WWE, much affected with the Montreal Screwjob. But, anyway Bret Hart did have a great career in WCW. Speaking of kayfabe wise, Bret Hart was a former 4 time U.S Champion and 2 time World Heavyweight Champion in WCW. Bret Hart has also beaten WCW’s Top stars including Goldberg, Ric Flair, and Sting who are in Top 5.
Not just that, as a performer, Bret Hart has definitely slowed down in WCW. But, anyway, his matches against Chris Benoit in Mayhem and Owen Hart’s Memorial Show in WCW were phenomenal ones. His matches against Goldberg and Sting were also good. He was also referred by WCW as the best wrestler to ever lace up boots in the organization.
How could Bret Hart being put lower than guys who were never World Champion and never headline a WCW PPV such as Konnan, Lance Storm, Billy Kidman, Perry Saturn, and Dean Malenko. And even how could Bret Hart, a main eventer and former World Champion being put lower than guys who weren’t main eventers during his WCW days like Steve Austin, Chris Jericho, and Rey Mysterio.
In my opinion, Bret Hart deserves to be in Top 5 WCW Superstars of all time, and at worst in Top 10. Number 41 is too ridilicious for a main eventer and former World Champion and what’s funnier no Pro Wrestling Fans complained about this.

10 of the 49 dead to include a 6 year old girl killed by gang members on St. Patricks Day weekend. This is the president’s home town. No mention of it. 32 people were shot in Chicago on a weekend in in 2008. Not a word about it. Why? The people shot were not gang members. They were sitting outside, driving their cars down the street, riding their bikes. Innocent people just going about their business. Why no mention of this? Where is the outrage about this? 50,000 people have been killed in Mexico since 2006. He never mentions that either.
That 6 year old little girl was cute as a button but she’s gone. She wasn’t wearing a hoodie. She was sitting outside with her mother and 2 year old sister. Trayvon was an important person who lost his life for no reason but what about these 49 people who were shot and/or killed for no reason? Why didn’t the president mention that?

My question is more related to the fact that some of our cities have turned into war zones but it receives little attention. Mexico is a war zone and lies on our border. My twisted little mind somehow finds this outrageous. If we had a terror attack that killed 10 people and injured 39 others, it would be a huge national issue. Shouldn’t these gangs be included in the description of terrorists? If they were Muslims they would be. Isn’t the government using some kind of racism here in the way they view crime and violence based on motivation? Needless deaths of anyone should be a huge issue regardless of race or reason.

Someone told me to call child protection services, but i don’t want that, I DONT want my mom to get torn from this. An entire family was arrested on charges of assaulting police officers, it all started as 88 year old WWII veteran and widower, Jack “Jackie” Flannery Sr was arrested on charges of drunk driving after leaving a special family dinner in their hometown of Hell’s Kitchen(now a gentrified hipster enclave referred to as “Clinton) in midtown Manhattan. Jack Sr complied with officers until Jack Sr’s 60 year old son Scott, attempted to pull officers off of his father yelling “If you take him, you take me too”, things quickly spiraled out of control as Scott was subdued with force by police batons and fists, soon the remaining three of Jack Sr’s sons jumped into the brawl, as other family members including daughters, sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews and grandchildren got into minor scuffles with police officers before the mayhem was quelled after about ten minutes. Jack Sr, 88 of Manhattan, Jack Jr, 63 of New Jersey, Scott, 60 of Manhattan, Eric, 56 of Long Island and Gregory, 50 of The Bronx were arrested on charges of assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, attempting to incite a riot, and damaging a police car. All five are being held on Riker’s Island.

In order to Cover, the Proposed Deficit of $1.3 Trillion in Mr. Obama’s FY 2013 Budget we would have to:
A) DOUBLE All Income Tax, Corporate Tax and Capital Gains Tax on EVERY American Man, Woman, Corporation and Investor.
Or
B) Increase all those Taxes above by 50%, AND Decrease Spending on Defense, Medicaid, Medicare, Welfare, Education and Social Security Retirement by 20% EACH.
Does this sound Realistic? Is it in the Ball Park?

I was only trying to Illustrate both the Enormity of the Problem, and the Pain that is going to have to be Endured to Fix the Problem, even if stretched out over a long period of time. Thank you @greg, Entertaining yet informative. I am very aware that Tax Revenue track right around 18% of GDP and that GDP does not Grow During High Taxation Periods. I did not EVEN try to work that into my Numbers Above, even though I know that it would be the Fastest, Easiest Way out of our Debt. Unfortunately, those making the Policies do not understand that simple principle.
I have a friend who has been married for over 30 years, she has ne child from this marriage who is now 14. She was happily married until about 15 years ago when her husbands mistress came to there door and asked for him. Since then she has never been able to forgive him because he wouldnt be a man and tell er the truth abouth the situation. She did file fo a divorce about 10 years ago but never has went through with it. Through all of this mayhem she has lived wih him..She takes the top floor of the house and he lives in the bottom half of the house. She claims he is still a excellent provider because she pays really no bills. They have one house which they still pay a mortgage on, and a condo with a motgage as well. .She recently decided at 50 that she wants to spread her wings and move into the condo alone. She will still be responsible for there daughters transportation but shes leaving the rest on him..She told him he is coming out cheap becuase if she goes through with the divorce he will have to give her the house and pay child support. “Many years ago, political scientists came up with a theory that elites lead public opinion. And on some issues, they clearly do. But on some issues, they don’t. Two examples of the latter phenomenon are conspicuous at a time when Barack Obama enjoys the approval of more than 60 percent of Americans and Democrats have won thumping majorities in two elections in a row. One is global warming. The other is gun control. On both issues, the elites of academe, the media and big business have been solidly on one side for years. But on both, the American public has been moving in the other direction.
Over the past decade, the Gallup organization has been asking Americans whether the seriousness of global warming is generally exaggerated or generally correct. From 1998 to 2007, except for the run-up to the 2004 election, they said it was generally serious by roughly a 2-1 margin — 66 to 30 percent in 2006, for example. But in March 2009, that margin slipped to only 57 to 41 percent, with two-thirds of Republicans and nearly half of independents saying concern is exaggerated.
Similarly, last month, pollster Scott Rasmussen found that only 34 percent believes that global warming is caused by human activity, while 48 percent said it is caused by long-term planetary trends. That’s almost exactly the opposite of what he found 12 months before — 47 to 34 percent the other way around. However, 48 percent of the group Rasmussen calls the “Political Class” — in other words, the elite — continues to believe global warming is man-made.
On guns, Gallup has been testing opinion for many years on one extreme proposal that is the goal, usually unstated, of many gun-control advocates: banning the possession of handguns. Support was 60 percent in 1960 and 49 percent in 1965. It was as high as 43 percent in the early 1990s, before the Clinton Congress passed the so-called assault weapons ban.
In March 2007, it had fallen to 29 percent — a minority, almost a fringe position. In the early 1990s, Gallup found that Americans, by a 2-1 margin, favored stricter gun sale laws over less strict ones or keeping them the same. By fall 2008, they were evenly split.
Some of these shifts in opinion may be responses to events that liberal elites have not deigned to notice. Forty of the 50 states now have concealed weapons laws that allow law-abiding citizens to get permits to carry guns. Gun controllers predicted these would result in traffic shootouts and general mayhem. They haven’t. It turns out that criminals are deterred from attacks less by gun-control laws than by the possibility that their intended victims may be armed. As for global warming, many Americans may have noticed that temperatures actually haven’t been rising over the past decade, as global warming alarmists predicted. The elites are able to hire armed security guards and jet off on private jets, so they are less likely to notice these things.
I think there’s something else at work here. For liberal elites, belief in gun control and global warming has taken on the character of religious faith. We have sinned (by hoarding guns or driving SUVs); we must atone (by turning in our guns or recycling); we must repent (by supporting gun control or cap and trade schemes). You may notice that the “we” in question is usually the great mass of ordinary American citizens.
The liberal elite is less interested in giving up its luxuries (Al Gore purchases carbon offsets to compensate for his huge mansion and private jet travel) than in changing the lifestyle of the masses, who selfishly insist on living in suburbs and keeping guns for recreation or protection. Ordinary Americans are seen not as responsible fellow citizens building stable communities but as greedy masses, who must be disciplined to live according to the elite’s religious dogmas.
It should not be completely surprising that over time, these views have become less congenial to the masses, who are the object of such condescension. Democratic officeholders, who must live by the discipline of the ballot, have noticed. Party leaders did not press to re-enact the assault weapons ban when it expired and currently are flummoxed by the backbenchers who are resisting a cap and trade bill that would impose huge costs on those who use electricity. Elites may lead, but Americans do not always follow.
