Report: Sony Says PS1 and PS2 Games Coming to PS3 “Soon” via Streaming Service

We at TheGameFanatics normally chalk things like this up as rumors and just avoid reporting on them, because we prefer actual facts not he said/ she said. However, with all the recent announcements coming out of the Sony camp, we have no choice but to bring this news to you guys.

Now for those of you who don’t know, Sony Computer () recently acquired cloud gaming service Gaikai. Gaikai is known for offering the best old and new games on their site. I’m sure most of you are wondering where the correlation comes in between Sony and Gaikai and this of bringing (PSX), and (PS2) games to the PlayStation 3 (PS3).

The rumor goes like this. Sony plans on creating a type of “Multiverse” similar to that of the PlayStation Store (PS Store) where all of their popular gaming titles of old, will be available to stream to your PlayStation 3. These titles will also be downloadable for a fee, but no details have emerged yet regarding the pricing system or exactly what titles will be on this “Multiverse” first.

This, if it’s true, would be a good move for Sony.  We don’t feel like beating an already dead horse by shouting about the promises they made when the PlayStation 3 first launched, and the lies they told about the slim models.  But if any of this has a single iota of being true, then Sony will win by those first adaptors who feel jilted because of the things Sony has done.

Here’s where the rumor meets the road. We were recently tipped off by an inside source when we brought up the topic of Sony’s latest splurge at the supermarket. Our source goes on to say:

“If we’d acquired Gaikai for anything other than that reason, it would have been a wasted investment.”

Shrewd choice of words to say the least, but that’s not all.

“You’d better believe we’re working hard to roll this out soon…once the integration is complete, expect a checkmate [in regards to the Xbox ].”

We can speculate as much as we want but the writing seems to be on the wall. We do believe there’s a bigger picture, and feel pretty confident that something concrete will be announced at Gamescom this year. We’ll keep you updated as we learn more.

Phew, we managed to get through this without a cheapshot at the whole Cross Chat notion.

      Its all about the games for SCEI.
      Its a no brainer too that Sony will integrate PSN and PS+ to this cloud gaming service into one awesome package.

      First PS Mobile, then Gaikai, then PS Vita Remote Desktop, then this!
      Its been one good July 4th for PlayStation gamers.

    Let me get this straight, its the same as the psn store, but you have to rebuy again to stream it to other things?

    This isnt backwards compatibility. Its rebuying old games again on a new service

    But just for sony made titles…..

    Why do they want my house adress? There is a section in the Playstation Network registration that says: “Do you want to receive notifications about new products, special offers, and other promotions”. If I say “no” does that mean I won’t get any mail from Sony as long as I don’t buy anything. Please help.

    I think this is a brilliant idea – It could in theory get sony past the problem of backwards compatibility for the PS4 meaning that the hardware would cost less to build and you could potentially play all PS1 PS2 and PS3 games on the next console

    It was cell shaded made by Square I think, you had to rebuild a huge tree to change the past or something.

    Also another PS2 game very similar, where it was cartoony, and a dog humanoid was an ally, you had to mix things inside a frog to create new weapons etc… I recall spending time on a space ship in between missions.

    My 40GB PS3 was working okay and i changed discs and now when i turn it on the lights on the controller turn off and the actual screen doesn’t get onto the log in menu. when i turn it on it just shows me sony computer entertainment and then an image of those waves that are the standard background. when i try and turn my controller on it wont let me try and find a ps3 when its connected by usb.

    I have the 160 gb ps3. I am trying to get it to play ps2 games, but it ways they it doesn’t except the format, however it will play my ps1 games. I don’t understand this at all, is there, anything i have to do to make it play ps2 games?

    whats the BIG difference between playstation 3 and playstation 2? my daughter has the playstation 2, she is 8 years old. does the games for playstation 2 work on the playstation 3? who is buying it for their child?

    Basically, I’ve been conditioned to believe that the SCEA is the one that gives the yea or nay for publishing games (well, this I don’t doubt), try hard as hell to discourage game companies from releasing 2D games/turn down games because they aren’t 3D/aesthetically pretty enough, instantly approves all Madden and sports games (because they sell), and that most, if not all, giant corporations are run by money-hungry wolves that don’t care what the actual consumer wants.

    I LOVE my PlayStation and PlayStation 2 but it’s ONLY because the games I want to play were/are released for those systems. Sadly, a lot of the games I actually like are only in Japan. :P Hooray for importing!

    So I’m wondering — if there are any game industry insiders out there that can give an honest answer (or even opinion) about SCEA — it would be appreciated.
    A link to the Wikipedia does not answer this question. Thanks anyway.
    I suppose a variaton of the question would be: Is the SCEA as evil as the rumors make it out to be?

    I have the Original PSP model. I’ve had it for about 2 years or so. My warranty is long expired but that’s not of my major concern. I just want my Psp fixed. The colored buttons work fine, as do the shoulder buttons. Due to a spilled juice drink my psp hasn’t been working the same since…obviously lol. All the buttons below the screen do not work at all.. and i cant get onto the internet before it closing automatically. How can i get my psp repaired from SCEA themselves instead of a third party retail store?

    and also does Best BuyGeek-Squadad fix PSP’s?

    In 2006, Sony Computer Entertainment came out with Playstation 3. Although Playstationi 1 came out in 1995 and Playstation 2 came out in 2000, it seams that every five to six years, a new Playstation comes out.

    Do you see the Sony Computer Entertainment developing Playstation 4 in the future and could there possibly be a Playstation 4 out between 2011 and 2012?

    I was just checking out onlive.com it is a could gaming system it seems pretty cool do you have this or have you tried it is it any good or what do you think about it is it just or rip off or is it a legit system it cost $100 to start then you pay to rent the game or buy it that don’t seem like a bad deal but what do yall think about it?

    the dark cloud games really were great to me

    i loved the system it had, i loved the fantasy, i love characters, i loved everything about them

    I recently came across this site called gaikai were u could play any computer game(mass effect 2, witcher 2, bulletstorm etc) on any specs i have an alienware and am not worried about specs but u dont need to download the games its as easy as clicking play game. But my real Q is will u be able to play online with people from steam.
    they said in a couple of months they would add full games their just trying to get the word out so now what is ur answer

    Well I see all the adverts saying whaty is cloud gaming but what actually is it. My son has started playing lots of games on his Exbox in the attic. I guess in the apartment we are kinda close to the clouds so is that it? Is that bad? Recently my son, who is 15, has started getting hairy and kinda grumpy, he’s getting tall too. Is this a symptom? He also likes girls more that he did. Has the exbox done this to him, and is mycosoft related? Thanks you.

    I have saved games (from skyrim for example) to my cloud storage from my console at home. Now Im at a friends house on his xbox trying to find my cloud saves. I have downloaded my profile to his console but for some reason I cannot find my cloud storage on his console. All I see when It asked me what storage device I want to use is his hard drive and his cloud storage. Where can I find my cloud saves on his console? Thank you for your answers.

    What happens when you use cloud save games for the xbox 360 and you put all your save games on it and you run out of xbox live gold? Will you not be able to use your saved games? Because you cant use it unless you have gold. Thats what i heard anyways.
