E3 2012 | Bellator: MMA Onslaught

This might be an overstatement, but this has the potential to be best downloadable game of this year.

For those of you who have been hiding under a rock for the past several years (no offense to Patrick from Spongebob), Bellator Fighting Championship is a Mixed Martial Arts tournament.  Bellator Fighting was previously on MTV2, but has received so much success that it is now on SpikeTV. With Bellator’s newly found success, SpikeTV and 345 Games are set to release Bellator: MMA Onslaught this summer.

Being a mixed martial artist myself, having studied Byakuren Kenpo, Brazilian Jiu-jistu, Wrestling, Hapkido, and Judo, I was excited to see where they will take MMA games. I met with Matt Mcenerney, Senior Producer, and Carlos Giffoni, Creative Director, from 345 Games at E3 to talk about Bellator: MMA Onslaught. Below are some videos of the demonstration. It’s hard to hear the interview, but it will definitely answer a lot of questions about the game.

As you watch the video, you will notice that this a more arcade style fighting game. The way they blend the arcade style with a realistic, almost simulation feel, is refreshing for the genre. A big part of the game with be the Create A Fighter feature. You will be acle to customize the look and fighting style of your fighter. Some of the fighting styles to choose from are Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Kickboxing and several styles. As the Bellator continues to grow, 345 Games will support and update the game with new moves and styles, weight classes, fighter selections and additional content. Having said all that, the very best part of this game is the fact that it will only be $15 at day one. If you are looking for a high quality game for $15, this is the game to grab for sure. Enjoy the video and screenshots and let me know what you think in the comments below.
