E3 2012 | Age of Wushu Brings Kung Fu to the MMO

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is a pretty cool movie but imagine if it was a game (neglecting the crappy one that happened). You could run along walls, trees, and water all while doing kung fu. Well that’s what Age of Wushu is and did I mention it’s an ?

Age of Wushu not only has a unique setting of the Ming Dynasty in China but it does several things differently than most MMOs. There are no levels and no classes. Magic and martial arts moves will be acquired from Wuxia novels throughout the world. There are eight different marital arts schools in the game and you can pick and choose at any point what path you want to take your warrior down. If you thought all MMOs were the same, Age of Wushu is working very hard to change your mind.

age of wushu 06 600x337 E3 2012 | Age of Wushu Brings Kung Fu to the MMO

My time with Age of Wushu was short—because is crazy—but I played enough to understand what it is. Firstly, the game looks gorgeous. All the moves look pretty authentic, not to mention straight up cool to see being done in a game. You don’t realize how tired normal sword slashes are until you’re jumping around doing kicks everywhere. There is also a counter system in the game as well as in-air combat.

The controls were a bit weird at first because of the camera angles used for running up walls and the like. However, it is so cool to see and fun to do, I couldn’t care less.

I’m not huge into MMOs but Age of Wushu is doing a lot of very interesting things. It even has an endorsement by Jet Li. And who I’m I to say that he’s wrong?

How tough is it to learn, practise, etc? compared to other styles…

Its just im looking to start a MA… and there is a wushu club nearest to me! i have no idea what it’s like yet (ill find out soon enough)…. but i always for some reason, associate wushu with fancy movements, jumping around kind of thing… something good to have been learning at a young age.

    Am i right?
is it an awkward age to start?

  4. I recently just watched the movie ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’ (2000, Ang Lee) and am curious to what other people think of it.
I LOVE IT. I am a big fan of the ’68 version of Romeo and Jueliet, so I see the simularlities. Plus, I think they did a nice job of respecting the martatial arts. The ending made me cry though……
    Well, what do you think?

  5. I remember seeing one scene where these two people were fighting in what looked to be like a jungle gym of some sort
it might have been two women and there was a big crowed watching and at one point they were stepping on the people watching heads

  6. Is there any way to watch E3 on TV? microsoft is supposedly releasing a new console next year and if this is true it will be announced this year at E3. Would you recommend buying the console? It might be expensive when it comes out.

I want to find a good and somewhat easy mmo for my sister, but it’s quite hard to find one that she can get into, especially a kid friendly, or at least one that doesn’t have too much profanity or other stuff going on or something. Any suggestion?

( Just to note, please do not suggest MapleStory or Gaiaonline. )
ohh forgot age detail, she’s 13, so World of warcraft would definitely wouldn’t do >.>

  8. I know that the Chinese style straight sword was a Jian, but what is the one handed type called?

HI, i am 17 years old, my height is only 5′ 5 1/2 , which is very short for my age. I am drinking 5 cups of milk everyday, eating nutrition food, and doing wushu ( Chinese performing martial art). I heard people say that doing kung fu may make me short or stop growing, by the way the type of martial art i am doing involve a lot of jumping, extreme stretching and fast kicking. I am also working out 3 times a week, does it affect my growing process?

  10. Considering they are both wushu masters and the same age, also filmed in two movies together, are they best friends? Because they both kind of act the same in films, and are dubbed whenever they have to use curse words.

  11. I wanna take wushu really, really, really badly but I found out that any age under 13 is the best age to start wushu if they want to go to the olympics and stuff like that. But I am 13 right now and I wanted to go the the olympics and championships etc. I like promised myself I would work so hard until my legs fell off everyday but is it too late to start ?

“If, however, an individual aspires to become a professional wushu athlete taking part in Olympic competitions, then I recommend he start as early as possible. Preferably before age 13. If an individual delays training until after age 15, it will be considerably more difficult (though not impossible) to reach a certain level of skill.” – Jet Li

    Now I feel bummed.

    Sup, mid-life crisis man here.

I started Martial Arts when I was 5 years old.

By time I was 14 I had a black belt and many victories in kyokushin and by time I was 15 I had a black belt in Taekwondo and had fought 18 undefeated fights and was offered the opportunity to fo fight in South Korea, but couldn’t because of money.
At 15 I felt like I had accomplished enough in gloved Karate and Taekwondo, so I tried Wushu and Muay Thai boxing and was on the school gymnastics team.

I took massive influence from Martial Arts films, and I wanted to be a stunt man, and eventually work my way up to becoming the best action and stunt choreographer in the business and putting together a team and that was my life goal, but never really knew how to get into the industry and by time I was 21, I was working a job I absolutely hated and still couldn’t find work as a stunt man, mostly because I lived in the UK and was thousands of miles away from Hollywood and the stunt industry here isn’t very good, and I never got the money together to go to Hollywood.

So I joined the Army and I stayed there until very recently when finally got out at the age of 33, and I haven’t done any martial arts for 12 years and I can’t do anything any more.
I’m back to a white belt, and trying to go to Hollywood at my age to do what I want to do would never happen now, not at my age.

I work a regular job and live a regular life, I’m currently studying Capoeira and Jeet Kune Do, and I don’t feel like a real martial artist, I feel like some drone who does it in his spare time.

    Is this it?
Regular life, is it that interesting?
Is it worth it n the end?
I help people, I tried that, I used some of my army money to go to south America and build things and I have worked for charities, but I don’t feel fulfilled by anything.

I feel like hobbies are nothing more than things we do to keep ourselves occupied whilst we wait for death.
Its like playing a gameboy whilst in a waiting room and that’s all hobbies are.

I don’t feel fulfilled by a job, they are all the same, and its all about money.
When I wanted to work in stunts, I wanted to earn a regular wage, I didn’t want to work for money, I wanted to work because its the only kind of job I find interesting.
When people start talking about getting jobs that pay a lot, I tent to stop listening, because people who work for nothing more than lots of money are the most boring and mundane people on the planet, I might be a middle aged loser whining over the internet, but at least I’m not a money whore, that is a true life of shame, yet that’s all I ever get “Well go to college and get a good job” but they all suck.

    What now?

    Can somebody explain?

I went in the army, I’m in college and work now for a job I could care less about and I have hobbies…
    Now what?
    Marriage and kids?
    Hell no!
I would never bring a kid into this world, and I think marriage is the most pointless human ritual in history, and all the women I meet bore the hell out of me.

    Are lobotomies legal?
Can I remove the part of my head that still wants to have fun that doesn’t involve alcohol and computer games and the oh so fun activities that involve staring at a screen?

I talk to my co-workers at my job and my class mates on a night and all they do is talk about their kids and their bills, and is that all life is???

    REALLY??

Has the part of your brain that might see life as an adventure died with your youth?

  13. Am 16 years old and between 5″ – 6″(don’t really know my height or weight). I am skinny but not flexible. I work very hard when it comes to improving something. I did boxing for 4 months but moved here but am thinking of trying a different martial arts.(going to gym soon) but have a lot of stamina (am in the athletics club).I have recently been interested in martial arts but don’t know what one to do because there a lot of them near my area.I like the belt system they use in karate because I make a goal like achieve a red belt by 6 months etc. I was gonna visit the martial arts ones that are in my area but I figure it would take too long. So, what do you guys recommend I should do. I want an martial where it can help me in a street fight (fighting multiple people etc.) and also maybe some weapon handling. I would like to spar with people to see how much I progressed. I an martial arts where mainly I will like meet people in my age so I can spar make friends, rivals etc. I wouldn’t mind joining tournaments and stuff like that. I just want something I can mainly focus on achieving like self discipline and things like that.
These are some of the martial arts that are in my area:
    Akido
    Boxing
    Capoeria
    Tai chi
    Karate(Shotakan and Kyoushin)
    Kenpo
    Kung fu
    Kick boxing
    Tae Kwon Do
    Jiu jutsu (BBJ too)
    Wushu
    Judo
    Shaolin way
    Wing chun (kinda far away)

I’ll leaven up to you guys what do you think thanks. (sorry for my spelling and my paragraphs not making sense i apologise).

  14. Okay, well,my husband is blasian(chinese, japanese, bajan(black).),and I am a mix of japanese, black, white, and native american. My husband is a very very hard working man,and at times he can be fun.We have twins, ages 4,a girl and a boy,and they love doing things by themselves. My daughter loves to draw, color.paint, and take nature walks with my husband, her brother, and I.My father in law,he is teaching them how to speak traditional chinese, and japanese, and my husband and I have been working on teaching them martial arts,(Wushu)together. Both my son and daugther can read, and write already, and we were thinking about sending them to piano lessons when they turned 6.We were wondering, are we being too hard on them like my father in law was on my husband to be good at everything?

  15. i am going to be a freshman in high school next year and i want to be in the jv cheer squad.

i am rather athletic, although i suck at running. i am mostly sheer power, and have more upper body strength than other girls my age (i can do 30 push-ups easily, no “girl” push ups). i am somewhat flexible and i can do handstands and backbends easily. i do martial arts, taught by a FOB chinese guy that has been doing wushu for most his life, so much that he probably hasnt gone to college yet and speaks a tiny amount of english. he is a very hard teacher and expects much from us. as a result of his training, i can kick VERY high, know a variety of punches, kicks, strikes, and etc.

the issue is, i am not a spirited person. i am the least spirited person i know. i am not anything like the cheerleader stereotype. i am asian through and through–good grades, anime-loving, the whole thing. i have short emo-style hair that struggles to stay in a ponytail.

so, can i make the squad

  16. I wanted to see the calligraphy they used at the end of the commercial. It looks like Chinese characters but it’s really English letters.

    And it’s not on youtube.

  17. I was reading the e3 first play review of the game and it sounded so amazing Age of Wushu is my dream game, but thinking about it I wondered if it would be a good mmorpg for pc and a single player rpg for all systems. The features would be the same besides the fact that there is no other players. The npcs could still be moving around and have different attitudes towars you , you would be able to follow any of the six storylines and the kindnapping my favorite part imagine kidnapping the daughter of the shaloin leader and having all their sacred scrolls as a ransom then after you return her they try ot hunt you down but you escape and leave your gang of bandits to fight for you . What do you think

  18. timq3dimensionscom August 22, 2012 at 8:23 am -

I’m 13 5 foot 4 not to brag but very well built for my age

and I’m very flexible, I’ve got great kicking power

and I know all about the styles but I want to know witch one is more street effective

    and suits me best

o and in case your wondering the masters are

wing chun – Masters Tony Yung and Kam Wong both with over 15 years of coaching experience. Both are third generation students of Master Ye Wen/Ip man.

Wushu – JI HONG the master of the biggest tai chi and wushu school in my city

hung Gar – Master Harry Cheung learned Hung Gar from a well-known master Hong Kong: Grand Master Lam Jo (95 years old). Lam Jo’s master is Lam Sai Wing who learned Hung Gar from the famous Master Wong Fai Hung.Grand Master Lam Jo has taught many students from all over the world. Harry has been practicing Hung Gar for about 40 years in Hong Kong. He also had a number of years of training in Judo and Wu Shu – Modern Chinese martial art. Assistant Instructors: Ken Wong, Paul Bassette.

    so, Hung Gar

    Wing Chun

    Wushu?

  19. well i have to ask again and i don’t know which fighting style i want, they all look real good and useful, but i kinda wanna learn alot of different types later in the future, anyways i want to learn a fighting style that is great, useflul, and fun but im not sure what, i heard Capoeria (i think thats how you spell it), Wushu Kung Fu, Kung Fu, Drunken Boxing, Jeet Kune Do, Muay Thai, and Ju Jitsu are great, but i wanna know which one i can enjoy, or use for protection, to be honest i want to balance my body out, Age: 15, Stats; Body Type:Average, I have pretty quick hands, and i heard from a Kung Fu master i met but couldn’t learn from cause i dont have much money that i look strong (like i was ready to learn… i guess) -thank you for taking your time to read this

    What adventure?

Most of the women I meet want to go on an adventure to some pretentious restaurant, rather than anything fun, that’s until we have been together a while, then her idea of an adventure is a trip to bed bath and beyond.

    People bore me too much.
    Curl up and die..
Or carry on living the way you boring drones seem to be happy living…

That’s hard….. however, I am wandering how exactly I would die from that…
I didn’t want to be famous, I just wanted to be a respected stunt coordinator and choreographer to the people in the biz.
Not famous and have fan, just work in films and be respected by the industry.

    So what?

Lower my expectations to being a boring mother fucker like you?

I have been to a councilor, all that’s all she said, lower your expectations and be mediocre, I would rather be depressed and wanting more than a mediocre slug like you bitch.

  22. i am 20 years old,should i learn wushu

if i will began at this age, does i can became a good wushu player
what are benefits of learning wushu ?

    or wushu is useless

actually there is no other option, only wushu is near our home
does wushu will make me tough

  23. Karate, kung-fu, wushu, aikido, krav maga, any other. Which one is better and why? I guess for self defense it would be aikido and krav maga, and for offense the rest? I don’t intend to kick someones @$$, and I haven’t been in a need of self defense so far, but that day might come. Oh and if I’m 16 (yeah i know what you are thinking: ”meh, just some kid trying to be all cool” or something, but that is SO NOT the case) can I train to become really good? I mean the best martial artists started at the age of 7 or so.

  24. Im physicaly fit, so Now I already found Wushu Dojo, I will do Wushu and acrobatics in same time , so I love to flip , like jackie chan, so is it still got time for my age ?? im 20 I can learn this type of K F ? or tooo late for my age ???? :(
