Phoenix Comicon | Saturday’s Events with 8 Bit Brit

Phoenix Comicon was more popular than ever this year with an attendance over 32,000 attendees. This past Memorial Day weekend was a fun filled event for those who attended the convention from all over the nation.

This event is not nearly as popular as San Diego’s Comic Con which I used to attend each year when I lived in San Diego, but it’s getting there! The energy at the event reminded me of the years I went to SDCC.

I attended the event on Saturday, May 26th and boy was it packed! I really couldn’t believe it. I was going into the convention with the mindset it was a small event that locals and maybe a few California and Nevada folks drove to since it’s closer and more affordable than SDCC. I had to protect myself at time from getting smacked into by crazed teenagers and cos-players with massive swords.

There were quite a few guests that made an appearance at the event… mainly Trekkies. Blah. It’s alright. William Shatner was quite entertaining during his session. Other Star Trek guests were not met by me unfortunately. The cast of Starship Troopers were good to watch at their panel too. Casper Van Dien was nice to meet, called my soon to be little one “a little Trooper”. Lou Ferrigno aka the Hulk was… short but nice. Jeremy Bulloch, the man that played Boba Fett was there too! Happens that he has a granddaughter that is named the same thing we are naming our little one. Must be fate.

I didn’t get pictures with any of them due to they still charged press $20-$30 dollars for photos. Quite silly. Something I think should definitely change with future events. Maybe it was just PCC. I remember going to SDCC and never being charged ever and I wasn’t even press/media there!

There were so many cos-players at the event from almost any and every , anime and comic book you can think of. The 501st first was there of course! My husband and I love them! Maybe we just love the dark side! Anyways. The shop floor was filled with artists and creators of nerdy geeky art galore. I recommend anyone going to any convention bring lots of money for the awesome future purchases that will occur at any comic book convention.

Check out my gallery below of some of the cos-play, people and panels my husband and I came across at the Phoenix Comicon 2012. Enjoy.

I’m going to my first Comicon in May (Phoenix) and yeah I feel like everyone is going to be some manga character. I’m not really into anime or manga but I do love Harry Potter. I’m going as Pansy Parkinson because 1) I want to be a Slytherin and 2) she’s the only HP character I slightly look like. :c I don’t really want to be left out or anything. So yeah? Also what should I expect? Thanks !

Who’s been to the Phoenix Comicon before? I’m wondering about cosplay ideas, and what kind of cosplay there is there… cause it’s called Comicon, but it seems to me more like a Sci-Fi/Otaku Con. In videos and pictures I’ve seen people dressed up as almost anything, but I wonder – I’m thinking of doing a Steampunk Lolita, and I just wonder if it would be too out of place and weird there or not.
    :)
Not that I should really worry about being weird at a Comicon….

  3. I told my boyfriend I would go to comicon in Houston with him this May and have decided to dress up as Dark Phoenix. I have found an outfit that is already made on ebay but I don’t know if i want to spend the money on it when I am able to sew. I was just wondering if there was a sewing pattern for the outfit.

  4. i’ve been looking everywhere (online, in stores, etc.) and cannot find a decent wig for this cosplay and Phoenix Comicon is coming up in May. Anybody have any suggestions?
Ed’s hair is red not orange btw

  5. Next year, for SDCC 2013. I’m going (At least am gonna try to, if i can get tickets) and I’m bored right now, so I’m thinking about costumes. I’m 15, ive got light brown hair that goes about 6 inches past my shoulders, and blue/green/grey eyes. I’m pretty thin, but NOTHING revealing. I’m only 15. I’m thinking of going as Romana ii, but I’d like some other suggestions.

  7. My cosplay group is cosplaying the Bad Touch Trio from Hetalia and I’m cosplaying Spain.
I can’t seem to find a cheap Spain wig and cosplay that will come in before the Phoenix Comicon in May.
Is there any place with quick shipping and isn’t to expensive where I can get the wig and the costume?
