Have you been pining for massive mech destruction? Well, good news then. Piranha Games Inc. announced that MechWarrior Online entered closed beta as of May 22, 2012.
The closed beta access will be limited to an invite-only basis, of course, but don’t lose hope yet!
Along with the closed beta announcement, MechWarrior Online has detailed its aptly named Operation Inception program. Operation Inception will allow you to begin playing July 17th with some nice goodies, depending on your payment choice.
For the $60 ELITE Founder’s Package, you’ll receive:
- Exclusive custom “Founder’s Battlemech.” This Mech includes a lifetime, per-match C-Bill booster.
- $80 value of in-game currency for in-game item purchases.
- Two-month premium account to MechWarrior Online at launch: Earn XP & C-Bills faster.

I’m trying to play Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries on DosBox. I mounted my CDROM drive to the D drive in DOSbox. My game is saved under the C drive, and when I try typing in C:MercsMercs, I am prompted with a message that says Error: Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries CD cannot be found. I also tried typing in D:MercsMercs and that didn’t work either, I got the same error message. I’m not very familiar with DOSbox at all, I just followed some online instructions. Any idea on how I can make DOSbox find the CD? Help would be much appreciated.
I’m already aware of Front Mission Evolved and the Mechwarrior series, I’m awaiting the release of Mechwarrior Online, and already have Bootfigher Windom XP SP-2. Are there any other mecha games anyone can recommend, be it American or Japanese-style mecha games? Preferably something that isn’t particularly well-known.
@Matt: I said Mecha games – games where you’re stomping around in a giant robot like Armored Core or Mechwarrior. Not generic FPSes that everyone and their dog knows about like Call of Duty or Halo.
