Nintendo lowers the price on DSi and DSi XL

Starting May 20th the and DSi XL prices will be lowered to $99.99 and $129.99 respectively. Both come preloaded with applications and can access over 200 DSiWare .

If you are one of the ten people in the world that doesn’t have a , this is probably your last chance to get on the bandwagon. It also means the DSi XL is finally cheaper than the .

The DS does have a great software library so this ends up being a pretty good deal. Although I can’t help but feel that this is all just a little bit late.

Nintendo’s new handheld program – the Nintendo 3DS has been pushed back again to March 2011 (WAHHH) So my hopes of obtaining a fantastic Christmas are out the window.

I’ve been thinking of asking for a Nintendo DSi XL now that they have lowered the cost to I believe 169.99 in Canada. My Nintendo DS lite is finding a bit (very) dirty and the screens are small. It’s Possible I can perform the wonderful video games I have missed out on on the DS prior to the 3DS comes along and eliminates the authentic DS sport designing.

Do you believe it would be really worth asking for as my “main gift” for Christmas? I usually have a regular since I enjoy Christmas memories and do not want the remaining Christmases to imply nothing.

    Please and thank you.

Ever since DS lite came out, all nintendo have been doing is fixing something that isn’t broken. DS lite was cheap and effective and it did the job.

If you want a camera, music player, video player, internet browser you would buy a smart phone like iPhone, not a handheld games console. They have been diverting attention to irrelevant and unnecessary gimmicks.

When they should be focusing on having a 3D screen that actually allows you to use the accelerometer and gyroscope, without ghosting the image. They been making the DS model even worst by lowering the position of D-Pad, which is uncomfortable for your thump, if used a lot and quickly as games demand. The clicky, pointy LR buttons and the flat YXBA buttons makes it hard to play a fast game like Super Street Fighter 4 properly, without burning out your hands. Positioning of Stylus makes it hard to get out fast. The bottom edges are kind of rough and feels uncomfortable to hold compared with the DS lites round edges.

I could go on and on, but nintendo forgot to do something simple. Keep everything that works on the next version, like they did with Gameboy > Gameboy colour (Kept the same shape) > Gameboy Advance (Improved graphics) > SP (Fold-able/Rechargeable) > DS (2 Screen, Touchscreen) > DS lite (Size, price, shape, battery life). DSi, DSi XL, 3DS, have seen little actual improvements made in terms of creating a handheld that allowed absorbing gameplay.

After DS lite, nintendo handholds have been getting worst in terms of value for money, not better. If they try to imitate PSP or PS Vita, they will fail, but if they focus on dedicated gameplay they can be unrivaled.
