With Diablo III’s release right around the corner, there has been a huge amount of discussion about it recently.
As the internet is wont to do, a lot of this discussion is concern over how fans that have been so invested in the series are absolutely certain that it’s going to be horrible. “You don’t have to specialize anymore!”, “Enemies drop healing power ups!?”, so on and so forth. I say: Rubbish.
The Diablo series kicked off with one of the best dungeon crawlers that had ever been made. It defined the genre for me, and I know I’m not alone in that. I still remember the first time I got Arkain’s Valor, or killed The Butcher. The game was amazing. It was slow paced crawling through dark corridors, where players found themselves ambushed by legions of undead and demons. The game was pure dungeon crawling goodness.
Diablo II rolled around some years later, and it flipped the series on its head. This is super important. Diablo and Diablo II were incredibly different. Diablo II introduced skills specific to each class, something that didn’t exist in Diablo 1. Even items that were class specific. It distinguished between open field zones and the dungeon style zones that made up the entirety of its predecessor.
You could almost say that the two games shared very few specific similarities: the magic item system, the fact that there was a blacksmith in town, and that Deckard Cain guy. And this is the point. Diablo III looks to change a lot of features from Diablo II. The skill trees are totally different, the quest schemes are different, the areas are different, but different clearly doesn’t mean bad. Diablo II was awesome, despite being totally different than Diablo which was also awesome.
Fact is, and I don’t care how little you care for World of Warcraft, the guys at Blizzard rarely do you wrong. They’re one of the most consistently solid studios out there. Objectively. Disregarding any portion of Diablo III as “poorly designed” or “a bad decision” at this point would be folly. I’m sure it won’t all be amazing. Diablo II not being released with cool downs on skills messed up any semblance of balance the game’s PvP might have had (Frozen Oooooooooorb), but I would put money on the fact that players gaining access to all of a classes abilities is not going to be the reason people don’t like Diablo III.

Thumbs up
I don’t forget Diablo 1 for the PSX, but they did not do that with Diablo 2, possibly they’re going to make a console return for Diablo 3, thoughts, discuss?

Make Sure You assist me to locate out….i dont have web connection now and Diablo III is coming out this May. I am extremely dissatisfied if world wide web connection is necessary to play the simple player game.
I’ve been waiting for this game to come out for over 10 years!! I beat Diablo and Diablo II (normal and nightmare mode) back in 2003. I’ve never beat Hell mode for Diablo II before and I have to before Diablo III comes out! By the way, does anyone have any tips for beating Hell mode with the Sorceress?
You raise some very good points a about how Diablo and Diablo II were very different. However, my only question to you would be that Diablo II did a lot to raise the complexity and nuances of the game. It was a decided step forward. Not just apples and oranges but apples to like… Apples with PB. So my question is that do you think Diablo III makes a similar step forward for the series or is it just different?
If I bought Diablo III on the 15th, would it be possible to sell the game used on ebay or something, after installing it, and could i still play it without a disk?
Also is Diablo III going to have a monthly payment thing like WOW?
Why couldn’t I sell it?
ok thanks!
Should I get it is my last question. Having no previous experience in the diablo franchise.
I think Diablo III’s coming out in November or december (if i’m completely off tell me)
And to me It looked really good. I can’t really wait and i wanna get a feel for the playstyle. I’ve played a game called fate which has the similar click to attack+move gameplay. I’ve never played Diablo II should I get it or just wait for Diablo III to come out
I have heard of wow gold and diablo III gold, they can be used for playing casino type games online.
I want to try it out. Where can I buy these items online? Is it safe to buy these items? If, Yes please suggest some sites where i can do it.
I decided to try to make a melee demon hunter, and it would be possible if I could unequip my ‘Hungering Arrow’ skill, so it is just a normal attack, like you could do in Diablo II. Is it possible or am I just hoping for something that I can’t get?
Thanks

I live in the US and my friend lives in France. She sent me a guest pass code for Diablo III and it didn’t work. Is this because of the different continents or something?
I changed the URL like it suggested. It didn’t seem to work for me.
@Dan Boyd
It says “The game key you have entered cannot be claimed. Please check the key and try again” and then tells me to try changing the URL.
All I need is a desktop that can handle Diablo III and Skyrim on high settings. And I’d like it to be as cheap as possible.
I don’t want a monitor…. I have a 32″ tv with big speakers right next to it that I use as my monitor. It sits 2 feet in front of me……
I have heard about Blizzard having a Mac team, that’s responsible for coding all of their games/software from windows over to Mac osx. I was wondering how many people are employed by it and a pretty solid estimated guess how much money blizzard spends on the Mac team program.
I recently logged onto the forums to discover that my account had been banned for “Posting about Illegal drugs or activities.” I though this was outrageous considering i had read the Code of Conduct and found that they prohibit
” * Reference to abusing illegal drugs
* Reference to performing illegal activities”
I NEVER advocated using illegal drugs, buying them, or doing anything illegal. I was simply making an argument saying that a certain drug should be legalized. How best should i contact blizzard and try to lift my ban?
Ive heard some rumors, i assume they are just that. But I was just cusrious as to if anyone has any real info as to wether Blizzard is planning or making a new diablo game?
I have installed starcraft 2, and whenever I try to open it, it says: “the blizzard Launcher must be in the same folder as a Blizzard game”. What do I do??? Please help!
My parents are flying home from Colorado & there is blizzard conditions there. I am REALLY REALLY worried that something will happen. I just get so worried about everything and if anything happens to them.. I just don’t know. I need reassurance. Will they still fly in blizzards? Is it safe to? Also, they will be flying at night so does that make it 10x worse?
So there is a HUGE blizzard going on and somehow lightning strikes a couple times, why did this happen?
Me and a girl from work are very competitive. Our boss said our latest competition could be to find an interesting blizzard flavor for the July flavor of the month. I have come up with the Idea of Smores (mixing chocolate syrup, marshmallow topping, and graham cracker crumbs), peanut butter and jelly (which turned out disgusting), and roasted almond by mixing almonds with sugar and cinnamon. I need more ideas! Some past flavors of the month have been Strawberry cheesecake (by putting a scoop of strawberries with chopped up chunks of cheesecake), hot fudge brownie (pretty self-explanatory), and birthday cake…Thanks in advance!
i am going to a pet show and i am buying a corn snake that has no color or phase, just completely white and i am assuming thats a blizzard. Does anyone know what it would look like or be called?
My world of warcraft account was hacked, I got an email from blizzard telling me to go the the recovery process and email them back. Well I did that but they still havent gotten back to me, and its been quite awhile. Has anyone ever gone through the same situation, and if so how long did you have to wait untill you’re account was playable again?
