The Comic Fanatic: Week of 4/28 – Uncanny X-Men, X-Men Legacy, Avengers VS X-Men VERSUS, American Vampire

Welcome True Believers, to this week’s edition of ! If you haven’t already, be sure to check out the article I wrote earlier this week on non-superhero comics. I think you’ll find something in there that you’ll like. I love superhero , but there’s so much more out there, I encourage you to check out the article and give some of the there a shot. And speaking of non-superhero , I think you’ll like this:

American Vampire Signed 600x1064 The Comic Fanatic: Week of 4/28 Uncanny X Men, X Men Legacy, Avengers VS X Men VERSUS, American Vampire

That is my copy of Vol 1 signed by Mr. Scott Snyder himself. Thought you might like that. This week was the debut of VERSUS. A redundant title notwithstanding, the VERSUS run (6 issues) focuses on some of the fights not featured in the main run. This week is Magneto VS , and Namor VS The Thing. Unfortunately, my copy was damaged in transit to my store, so I don’t physically have a copy until next week, but I was able to check out a friend’s, and it doesn’t look like a must read, but definitely interesting. If you’re a fan of any of these four characters, check this out.

AvXVersus1 300x455 The Comic Fanatic: Week of 4/28 Uncanny X Men, X Men Legacy, Avengers VS X Men VERSUS, American Vampire

Also out this week is Uncanny X-Men #11, which IS a must read. Taking place at the same time at Avengers VS X-Men #1, it provides a great deal of insight into the characters, especially Hope, Namor, and Colossus, who is as you’ve never seen him before in this issue. It’s rather awesome. Kieron Gillen is one of those writers who isn’t always on, but when he is, you better pay attention. If you have been following A VS X, you need to read this. It is great.

uncannyxmen 11 cover 300x456 The Comic Fanatic: Week of 4/28 Uncanny X Men, X Men Legacy, Avengers VS X Men VERSUS, American Vampire

#265 is now available. Not gonna lie, I love this series. Even if the stories aren’t always top-notch, I love the roster. Rogue, Gambit and Rachel Grey are some of my favorite characters, and it’s fun to see them in action. Also, I like seeing the rest of the faculty at the Jean Grey School cameo in and out. This issue is a follow up to last month’s with Omega and Mimic (not to be confused with Mimic from the Exiles, which I did). There’s some real good character moments and the intensity is up there, as Rogue, Mimic and Omega are kinetic bombs and have an hour at the beginning of the issue before the explode and take most of the school with them. Fun times, neh?

X Men Legacy 265 300x455 The Comic Fanatic: Week of 4/28 Uncanny X Men, X Men Legacy, Avengers VS X Men VERSUS, American Vampire

That’s all for this week, friends! Until next time!

  1. Effectively I have an assignment where I have to review and contrast the similarities and differences of Greek mythology and a culture’s myths in the Americas, so I selected American comics as one, because that is portion of our contemporary culture, and there are truly numerous similarities, but the dilemma is that there aren’t enough. I was hoping you guys could aid me find a couple comparable characters in both, that is all, Thanks in advance, if you do help.
I suggest the heroes, not the gods, sorry if that was confusing.

  5. Let’s say I want to read something like Crisis on Infinite Earth (not sure that’s the actual name), can I just pick it up and have fun with it or will I just be lost because I don’t know anything about anyone in it?

Where should I start if I want to read superhero comics, if there is a place I should start from, of course.

I’ve always wondered, to all the people who went or lived in china before, do they have any American superhero comics like spiderman, batman or superman in China also do they sell superhero action figures there too. Do they in China even know who Batman, Superman, spiderman and the green lantern is?

  7. I was thinking of picking up a vampire comic book. I am stuck between I, Vampire from the DCnU and American Vampire. I here they are both good, but I also hear I, Vampire makes you read Justice League Dark, which I hear is also good. Which is better and for what reasons in your opinion?

  8. I want to buy a vampire weekend hoodie which are american apparel hoodies but they only have the sizes XS and M (unisex sizes). I don’t know what size to get because I’m a size S. Will it stretch or shrink? I am about 5’3 and i weigh about 130. What size will be good for me?

  9. It is for my Senior Project, ((which determines if i graduate)) and i wanted to do a vampire novl by a non american author ((author cant be american due to rules of project.)) And I wanted one with a good fight in it, like a sword fight or sumthing or claw fight or just a fight. Or maybe even just a good novel with an epic sword battle. Please help me finish my senior project!!!!

  14. I found a Native American story about the raccoon and the black cats, and I was wondering what role black cats have in NA myths and what other stories there are.
Also, do NA have a vampire like creature? most cultures have a version, do they?
Would black cats be considered “guardians” or is it like in other cultures where black cats are unlucky?

  15. Is its image (a) real or virtual, (b) inverted or of the same orientation as the bat, and (c) on the same side of the mirror as the bat or on the opposite side?

  16. Don’t flip if this ends up being a dumb question but seriously
    the site is pretty convincing
and I know it has something to do with Trublood

  17. Rich, super strong, super powers… these aren’t realistic standards for boys.
Feminist shout that barbies/models are unrealistic images for girls to live up to.
So where is the clamor for boys as well?

Feminist is all about equality, isn’t it?

    Well, isnt’ it?
rebelgirl: wow. you suggest go from one unrealistic body image to the next? wow, you really don’t understand the question, do you?
Its gonna be hard to pick a BA when everyone is blatantly saying “yea, but…”
