Activision Announces 007 Legends

Believe it or not, but the 50th Anniversary of the James Bond film franchise is upon us. And to celebrate, Activision announced today that a new Bond game is in development that revisits some of the super spy’s past adventures. 007 Legends connects six of the Bond films in one overarching storyline, quite possibly allowing players to relive many of Bond’s most iconic cinematic moments . Eurocom, developers behind the previous Bond title Goldeneye 007 for the Nintendo Wii (and its Xbox 360 and PS3 port Goldeneye 007: Reloaded), are at the helm on this ambitious new project.

“To honor 50 years of the world’s top secret agent,  007 Legends offers a collection of his most famed moments in the smartest and most treacherous Bond game yet,” said David Oxford, Executive Vice President at Activision Publishing, Inc.  “Creating a video game storyline that ties together six popular, yet very different, Bond movie narratives can be challenging, but together with EON Productions, our developer Eurocom, has pulled it off to create an homage that we think will be a unique and highly entertaining Bond video game.”

Will we see a reimagined "Moonraker" starring Daniel Craig? One can only hope...

Although no details have been released as far as exactly which six movies (with the exception of the soon to be released Skyfall) are going to get represented in the campaign, the official press release did go on to say that the Mi6 Ops Missions mode introduced in Goldeneye 007: Reloaded would be included, now featuring the option to play as villains as well as Bond himself. Multiplayer will also be included for both online as well as local split screen play. Undoubtedly all the hallmarks of the Bond movies and games (gadgets, guns and girls) will be in abundance. As a fan of the films myself, the idea of playing through many of my favorite films in the series is pretty exciting. No word on whether Daniel Craig’s likeness will be used for the entire compaign and if the films will get the reimagining that Goldeneye got in the Goldeneye 007 game. Although one can’t help but guess that’s probably going to be the case…especially since the game segways into the latest film, Skyfall. 007 Legends is currently in development for both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and is set to be released this fall.
