The Comic Fanatic – Week of 3/28: Avengers VS X-Men, X-Men Legacy, Uncanny X-Force and X-23

Welcome True Believers!   here, with your weekly dose of comic goodness. If you haven’t yet, check out my of Avengers VS X-Men #0. While we’re on the subject, let’s talk about VS X-Men. As I mentioned in my review, here are the comics that we will be covering (as they pertain to the big event):

So look for these reviews as they come out. We’ll try to have a spoiler-free section at the beginning of each review, then go into spoilers towards the end where they’ll be easy to skip. This is Marvel’s big event for the year, so we’ll be giving it appropriate coverage. Also this week, in addition to #0, I picked up X-Men Legacy # 264  and Uncanny #23. Legacy #264 is another good issue. It’s not amazing, but it’s good, which pretty much sums up Legacy. It’s usually not amazing, apart from a few big events like Age of X, but it’s usually pretty good, and I really like it. It’s fun, and this issue brings in Mimic (Cal Rankin), who was a major character in the original Exiles, which is a favorite series of mine. It’s an interesting issue, and centers around Rogue, Gambit, Rachel Grey and Frenzy at the school, so there’s cameos aplenty.

#23 wraps up the Otherworld , for which some people will be relieved. I think that many people don’t like it because it’s not as good as the Dark Angel . I’ll agree that it isn’t, but it still is fun, and harkens back to Excalibur with Brian and Meggan. I have enjoyed it, but am looking forward to what’s next, which appears to be going after AoA Bobby Drake (who is many times more powerful than Iceman). Also, the is polarizing. Some people hate it, I rather like it. Still, curious to see what’s next, as X-Force won’t be part of Avengers VS X-Men.

Other than that, I picked up a back issues of X-23′s solo run that I had been missing. I really have been enjoying it. I really like X-23 as a character. I feel that she has grown beyond being simply another Wolverine clone (despite the fact that she is). Her time with the New X-Men (Childhood’s End) and X-Force were some really great outings, and her solo run, despite a rocky start, has turned out to be a great deal of fun. It’s also been rather beautiful. Takeda’s art has been really magnificent. Truly some of the most gorgeous that I’ve seen.

Iron Gentleman 2 was terrific. Much Better than the 1st one. Forged was great, story was great, segways into the forthcoming Avengers motion picture had been a bonus.

I know the Avengers consist of Hawkeye, the Black Widow, Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and the Incredible Hulk, led by Nick Fury. Which villain gave them the most trouble?

  7. I Am hoping to catch up on Fantastic Four and the Avengers and was pondering what issues I must go through since I don’t want to study them ALL. I was questioning if anyone out there had some recommendations on what to study in the 60s, 70s and eighties era of either of these franchises.

  8. I feel my parakeet is ill and dehydrated. I bought some marvel assist feed it by means of a syringe because it is nevertheless a baby. Can any individual tell me how much and how frequently should I administer the marvel aid.

My son loves Wolverine and the X-men, and he wants some of the comics, but I understand that most of them are quite violent. I don’t want my son to end up like those other kids on the American western coast that were in the news and were into comics. I don’t want my son to get any bad habits like fighting from comics. Are there any Wolverine/X-men comics that don’t have any violence/fighting or anything related to alcohol/drugs/sex. I understand that the x-men are about equality and tolerance, so I would like some of the episodes that focus on those ideals, and none of the violence stuff.

  10. Last night I just watched the new X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie. It didn’t have any of the special effects done but I will tell ya, it was awesome!

I am so excited to see it all finished with it’s effects and original score in theaters.
Don’t ask me how I got to see it before everyone else, but I am just going to say, You better get Pumped Up for this Movie!!!

Who else is excited about it?

  11. Which do you think is better and DON’T say Pryde of the X-Men or X-Men the animated Series only between the two

I say X-Men Evolution because it was funnier and is my favorite from all 4 Wolverine & X-Men is more serious

BQ: Which is your favorite from the four?

  12. was reading AvX but lost interest in it after a while but was wondering if it was ever revealed who that Nova Corp member was that landed on earth to warn the Avengers. anyone know?

  13. I have just bought the first issue of Avengers Vs. X-Men but I am still a little confused about the storyline. If someone could just explain to me all the major things which have happened leading up to this comic it would be much appreciated. Such as what happened with Jean Grey and why is Scott Summers now with Magneto? Also who is Hope? What happened to all the mutants and if there anything I need to know about the Avengers? Stuff like that is what I am looking for. You don’t have to go into too much detail but just enough so I can understand what is going on better. Lastly do you know how many issues there will be? Thank you in advance.

I was so confused when I first started reading it because of the weird kid with the covered brown face. Please help me understand who he is.
