Self-Healing Plastic Fixes Itself When Exposed to Light

Some ingenious minds in the scientific community have created the ultimate plastic for protecting phones. Unlike you’re typical run of the mill plastic, that is used in or on most phones, this plastic has the ability to heal itself when exposed to certain lights. At the 243rd National Meeting & Exposition of the American Chemical Society, Professor Marek W. Urban, Ph.D. introduced research on plastics that change color when damaged and then regenerate themselves when exposed to light.

Professor Urban says:

“Our new plastic tries to mimic nature, issuing a red signal when damaged and then renewing itself when exposed to visible light, temperature or pH changes.”

This is one of the most incredible things I’ve heard in a very long time in terms of preventing a device from being damage in everyday use. Unfortunately though, this technology isn’t available to everyone just yet. Nissan however have begun selling protective self-healing iPhone cases earlier this year that feature this technology from the University of Tokyo. I assume this type of technology will be available to everyone near the end of the year and will be standard feature for most phones in  years to come.
