What We Played for Week Ending March 1

This is a weekly segment where we share what games we are currently playing for our readers to get to know us a bit better. Said games can range from retro to current and from casual to FPS games. If we’re playing it, we’ll share it. Please feel free to comment with what you’re playing or your opinions on the games that we’re involved with.

Jeff: After finishing Half-Life, I naturally moved on to Half-Life 2, and am about to finish the “Sandtraps” chapter. Other than that, I’ve been dabbling in the mediocrity of Galerians: Ash, a sequel to a Resident Evil clone, but the gimmick is that you have superpowers.

Jen: Started out with Saints Row the Third at the start of the week and then it was nothing but Mass Effect 3. I stayed away from Twitter for a bit and I’m still avoiding Tumblr in order to not run into any spoilers. I did run into an article about how Tali’s face is a stock image that was taken off of Google images and how some people are disappointed with the ending, but besides that I’ve been avoiding the spoilers. Personally, I am enjoying Mass Effect 3 big time. There is a lot more talking than the past two installments and it feels more RPGish as well. I’m planning on getting all the achievements like I did with the other two. With this in mind, I am dreading playing it on insanity.

Chris: Finally got my copy of Street Fighter X Tekken. Definitely cool since I’ve been covering this game since I started with The Game Fanatics last year. I had some pretty lofty expectations, and so far I’m really enjoying this game. While I’m not ready to crown this game as the best fighting game out right now, it is certainly a very good title (full review will be released soon). There are a few quirks with online play but that happens with most fighting games online. Also a week in and I still haven’t found my partner for Ken Masters, search has been reduced to Steve Fox, Asuka, King, Paul Phoenix. One thing I love about this game is how the Tekken characters translate to Street Fighter gameplay. Well played Capcom, you have created another addicting title.

William: I have, like many I assume, begun Mass Effect 3. The multiplayer is pretty darn good. Working my way through both the story and multiplayer with an Engineer, and though I die pretty fast, the turret/drone combo is potent to say the least. That’s pretty much it for games at the moment, but I’m looking in to getting Street Fighter X Tekken, as I’ve heard good things.

Jason: Got Saint’s Row the Third while it was on sale through Steam and its eaten up a lot of my gaming time. I also traded my 3DS and all my 3DS games in for a PS Vita and boy am I glad I did. I have not picked up Mass Effect 3, because I haven’t completely finished ME 2 (I know, how awful right?). I also got into the beta for the MMO Tera and been playing that on and off throughout the weekend. I’ve pretty much traded in all the stuff I’d want to part with, so will have to wait a little bit to get my hands on Street Fighter X Tekken and Mass Effect 3 (the two games I really want the most right now). I’m slowly losing interest in SWTOR…which is saying a lot considering how much of a Star Wars fanatic I am. Maybe, I’ll write an editorial about that: A Star Wars Fan’s Disenchantment with Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Greg: I did it. Finally did it. I beat Mass Effect 3. I really liked it. After many many hours spent on the series, it’s finally done. Loved it. Glad to be done. But totally loved it.

Charles: I beat Mass Effect. That is all.
