Last Tuesday, Microsoft released the consumer preview for their next operating system, Windows 8. The new operating system is looking to further streamline and connect your Windows devices. Of course, I was all over this and downloaded it. I’d read and seen things here and there, but always told myself to just “wait and try it for yourself.” If Microsoft hadn’t decided to do the public beta for Windows 7, I probably would still be using XP.
Windows 8 is looking to take the operating system in a new direction, and it’s new “Metro” layout takes the start menu and flips it on you with a look and feel that mimics the Windows Phone menu and the Xbox 360 Dashboard. They even recently changed the Windows logo, as you see above. When screenshots of the new start menu were released, I scratched my head and wondered if it was really a smart idea. The start button is sort of the center of the Windows OS, so I was skeptical on whether changing it was a good idea.
The installer took about 5 minutes to download and the installation itself about an hour. The installation give you the option to keep all of your personal files, or if you want to start fresh. It also gives you the option of installing on a separate partition and even the ability to make a bootable Windows 8 flash drive, which was one of Windows’ most requested features for years. The installation was simple, and when it rebooted, it had my set up my network and connect Windows with my Live ID, which I admittedly never use other than to sign into Windows Live Messenger. After it was all set up, I was introduced to the new start menu. I have to tell you, it is very different and takes some getting used to.
The start menu is no longer just a button and popup at the bottom of your desktop, it’s an entirely separate window. To bring it up, drag your mouse to the lower-left corner where the button normally is, and an Aero preview will appear that you click. The nice thing is that the start menu is still able to be customized as you can change the colors, the designs on the start menu’s wallpaper, the icons, and even the size and arrangement of the icons. Your open apps and windows will also be listed on the left side, and bringing those up is as easy as bringing your mouse to the left hand side of the screen.
You may have mentioned that I said “apps,” and yes, Windows 8 is introducing apps much like you would get on your phone. These include games, news, and tools like photo editors. There’s a very nice selection and I had a ton of fun playing games like Flow, Cut the Rope, Train Titans, and you can even play some of your Xbox LIVE Arcade games right there on your PC through Windows 8. Pinball FX 2 and Solitaire are available through the preview if you have the games purchased on your Xbox 360.
Of course though, there are some downsides. Even on a quad-core processor and 4GBs of RAM, Windows 8 seems be a bit on the sluggish side from time to time for me, compared to Windows 7. Even simple applications like Google Chrome, GoldWave, and GIMP seem to take anywhere from an extra 5 to 10 seconds to start up. It’s also hard for me to say whether this will affect PC gaming as my laptop doesn’t have a dedicated GPU. However, I will say that it seemed to play Pinball FX 2 almost perfectly.
So far, the Windows 8 consumer preview has kind of left me wondering whether this version of Windows could possibly end up like Vista, which was panned by consumers and critics alike. Microsoft even had the “Mojave Experiment” which was their ad campaign showing people testing a “new” version of Windows and when they said they liked it, were told it was really Vista. The OS just never really caught on as many of it’s main features would only be usable by people with high-end PCs. Dual-cores and quad-cores were really just starting to break out in the market and hadn’t really become the standard at the time like they are now.
It seems like Microsoft had an idea that seemed really cool on paper, but I have a feeling it could get lost on consumers. It doesn’t really require any extra work, as the start button is still only one click away, it just seems as though not having a centralized start menu could potentially turn people away who are accustomed to it. As for me, I think I will be sticking to Windows 7. Either way though, I’m excited to see where Microsoft decided to take this, and if there will be any big changes with Windows 8 as Microsoft receives consumer feedback.

The room was still besides the dust bunnies that were flying and crawling all over the furniture. The nature beyond the window was silent for a moment until a loud crashing noise woke up the still beauty. “OUCH! Crap…” I went for the door to hold up my weight but something suddenly made me trip, my brothers hockey card booklet. I picked it up and threw it on the ground closest to the stairs. I got undressed and climbed into the shower. 6:30am was the time I woke up. The first day of school is the one day where you have to look your best, to make impressions either good or bad ones. As I got dressed and threw yet another set of clothes to the ground my phone buzzed.

Kayla was one of those girls who always fidgeted with her appearance, always wanting to look the best. I’ve known Kayla since we were in Kindergarten at St. Betards.(?) We weren’t the closest of friends until we hit grade 6. Boy, she ruined my life but made me laugh whenever I was down. Kayla is like 2 inches taller than me now and never lets me forget it. I don’t like coffee but it seems like I’m on a caffeine high. The craziness of having this being the first day of high school was making me think I was going insane. The room was spinning around my head like it would have been in a dream. My ears were suddenly intuned to almost everything around me. My light was buzzing every 4 seconds, the ticking noice from the clock kept going on and on. The strange thing is I didn’t hear my mom walk over to my room and open my door. She opened the door very slowly, her mouth moving but yet no noise was coming out of it. She looked at me in a very peculiar way. I looked up and down and then everything went black. I thought I’d been awake already? I’d banged my toe, hadn’t I? I reached for the sore toe on my right and pressed. “Shit!” I cried. I’d definatley been awake before, I remembered everything. I walked to the shower and stubbed my toe on the bathroom door but then tripped over Hayden’s stupid hockey card booklet. I weakly got a low cry out, “ Mom? Mom?” My mom wasn’t the type to let anything go. She was still upset at me because my room was messed up. I love my mother, don’t get me wrong, it’s just sometimes it can be real annoying, you can’t blame me though I’m going through that whole adolescent, “the world hates me” thing. I’m 15 don’t point the finger at me.

What is the product key card and what is the difference between Home & Student and the key card? I want to seem approachable but not too friendly…
I hear that Dell computers aren’t very good. A lot of people say they are junk but I notice that people who actually own Dell computers don’t have any problems with them. My mom has a Dell Dimension 2400 that’s well over 8 years old. It still runs really good and hasn’t caused her any problems whatsoever. She uses it for listening to music and browsing the web. She doesn’t go on YouTube or any type of streaming site with it because she only has dial-up internet.
My friend Robert has a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop that he’s had for 3 years now. It still runs great and he hasn’t had any problems with it. My cousin Dion also has an Inspiron 1525, had it for 2 years and hasn’t had any problems with it.
I had a Dell Inspiron 640m back in 2006 and it was fast right out of the box but its speed and performance went way down after I put all my music and documents on it from my backups. And whenever I’d listen to music while ripping a CD, the music would stutter and there would be clicks and pops in the audio. It would also freeze a lot whenever I’d be listening to music and I tried to adjust the volume.
I got a Dell Dimension 3000 after the Inspiron 640m that was 2 years old up to that point. I wiped out the hard drive, re-installed Windows and put my files back on the hard drive. It ran nice and smooth and didn’t cause me any problems for as long as I had it.
Then I got my Vostro 1520 laptop in 2009. I’d have to say this was by far, the worst computer I ever owned, and also the best. It ran blazing fast out of the box, and continued to run as fast even after I installed all my programs and put my music library of over 15000+ songs on the hard drive.
I used the laptop a lot; browsed the web while downloading movies and music albums with uTorrent, listening to music on Windows Media Player, all at the same time. Everything was good up until January 2010 (exactly half a year after I first got the laptop). It started running very slow and then I got a S.M.A.R.T. failure message every time I started up the computer, saying that a hard drive failure was imminent. I backed up all my files and borrowed my friend’s 160GB hard drive. After 3 months, sure enough I got a S.M.A.R.T. failure on his hard drive.
Anyway, my point is, every Dell laptop I own always seems to break down in some way or other. But that Inspiron 640m belongs to my girlfriend and it works just fine for her. The Dimension 3000 desktop was a really good computer to be honest.
I got this Vostro 1520 as a high school grad gift from my parents. We have an account at a mercantile store where we do our taxes, and my mom’s GST checks pay off the account whenever we put something on the account. It’s like a tab a person has at a bar for drinks, but this is for merchandise at the store. They order Dell computers and this is how they were able to get mine.
We didn’t have enough money to purchase a laptop from the electronics store, so we had no choice but to order a Dell. Right then and there I got a feeling in my gut that I’d regret this. And sure enough, I regret it to this very day. This laptop once brought me satisfaction and a good impression on Dell computers in general, but that all went to shit after half a year.
Dell computers aren’t the only ones that have failed on me. I’ve had several old Windows 3.1 and Windows 98 desktops back when I was younger. I used those computers just to play games and listen to CDs on. They would suddenly stop starting up, but I was a little young to be able to troubleshoot the problem directly. It seems like I wouldn’t even do anything and next thing you know, Windows fails to start up.
I wonder if I have a curse with computers. I know how to fix them and now I know lots about them. I embrace them so much and I can’t live without one anymore because I’m a music lover and I watch a lot of movies and TV shows.
But why is it that every time I get a computer, they always crap out on me? Maybe I’m overusing them and pushing them past their limits? Could it be possible that I’m slowly killing all my computers by running uTorrent downloading several hundred GBs of files, leaving the system on overnight, listening to music, typing on Microsoft Word and browsing the web simultaneously?
What do you think? Maybe it’s just a coincidence that Dell computers can’t keep up with this type of workload?

Buy a workstation rather than a regular PC… I never heard of this before. Hmm, maybe later on in the future I’ll try that.
I know for a fact that you can’t expect a computer to continue running good with no problems if you leave it, forget it and don’t maintain it regularly. Computers are a lot like cars. If you don’t maintain them regularly, don’t expect them to run good for long.
I keep all my software and hardware up to date. I have the latest BIOS update installed, all the latest firmware, the whole 9 yards.

The police came around to mine and my partners flat. They kept knocking and ringing the buzzer, then left a note to say that they had “repeatedly knocked and called”, and to contact them asap. They then came around the next day, and they had a set of keys! They couldn’t come in as thankfully my partner had put the snip on. We did let our rottweiler scratch the door and sniff so that they would get the impression we had a guard dog here to put them off coming in. They couldn’t see him though.
This is the most shocking part. After they had left, we went to see if they had left another note. But we realised that we were locked in! We called my partners brother and gave him a set of keys through the window, but he couldnt even let us in. Its a hazard, as there are all security bars on every window so that theives? cannot get in. We cannot get out apart from through the door that they locked.
In the end I called up the phone number left by the constable, and the constable said that they had infact been round, to question my partner about criminal damage from next door. They came around 20 mins later and their key worked? They were very pleasant, and even admired and stroked our friendly rottweiler. They said that they needed to take my partner very informally into the station to ask him a few silly questions about our neighbors putting in complaints about criminal damage… the same people who had attacked my partner and been racist at new year and we had called the police on them and made statements!
They dropped my partner off and gave him a sheet to say no action will be taken due to no evidence. Anyway, the next day we were in bed and the buzzer kept ringing and knocking on our door… Only then to hear our doop being unlocked and none other than the RSPCA woman with a police officer to say that they had a call from the police to say that there had been an abandoned dog left in the building. I said who gave you the keys? She said the police, and when I said where did they tell you to come, she said that she had been told about an empty flat and called the “to let” sign outside and the agents told them that it was our flat that was empty, flat two! When infact our last neighbours from next door, flat one, was empty as they moved 8 weeks ago.
I called up our agents, who said that they had no idea why the police had a set of keys or the RSPCA, and said that the only other person who could, the owner of the flat, was abroad! The RSPCA woman told us that the police had seen through the windows an abandoned dog (no way the police leapt over the fence, there is a locked door leading into the back). They could only see through the very back room, which is empty and we never use it due to it being damp and too hard to heat. When the police came, they should surely have realised it was us with the dog since they admired him? And informed the rspca not to come around?
What would have happened if me and my partner had been out and they came and took our dog to the RSPCA? What if we had been out when the police came with our keys?
When I told the officer at 10pm at night to come round because they had locked us in he said that he put the locks back in place??
Is this all legal and is this police harrasment?
To answer your question, the police would not have known that there is no hole for the key on the inside of the door only the outside, hence why we couldn’t unlock it. Its an extra lock we don’t use.

Danny looked good. His hair was spiked up with gel and he smelt of pepper mint. He was wearing a dark blue hooded jumper and black trousers. His Nike sand shoes looked brand new; they were black with an orange tick and shoelaces that were tucked in undone.
“Hey,” He said to Ruby as he hopped in after his sister. Kyle had taken over the front seat so he didn’t have to sit next to his annoying cousins.
“Hey,” Ruby replied, nervously trying to make a good impression.
“Nice jacket,” Danny said giving Ruby one of his to die for smiles.
Ruby thought for a moment she couldn’t exactly say nice everything, “Nice… Hair,” Ruby gasped as soon as she’d said it, how could she be so dumb ‘nice hair! “You’re so stupid Ruby!” She whispered under her breath.
“Thanks, pepper mint gel, glad you like it, little monster here always mocks me about my hair,” He giggled tickling Erin.
“Stop it!” Erin laughed pushing Danny’s hands away.
Danny pulled out his iPod touch and plugged his earphones into each ear. He looked over at Ruby. She was starring out the window at all the live stock out in the roadside paddocks.
“Hey Erin,” Kyle whispered “Swap?”

“I’ll let you play on my laptop when we get home,” Eventually after a lot of persuading Erin finally agreed to swap seats with Danny, he’d lost 5 dollars and she had 1 hour on Danny’s laptop but she gave up in the end. He held out an earphone for Ruby. She smiled and put it into her ear. Grenade by Bruno Mars started playing.
“Oh my god, I love this song,” Ruby grinned looking at Danny.
Kyle spun around to see what all the fuss was about. He got a little jealous when he saw Danny and Ruby laughing and singing to Grenade, but soon got over it when he noticed Ruby smiled back at him.

Finally after half an hour in the car David pulled over to the side of the road. Ruby looked out the window and saw five cars all lined up in a row. David joined them. The rainforest was beautiful and lush. You could hear all the birds squawking and tweeting as you got out of the car.
“Welcome to Forest Hiking,” A short man said walking over to them “I’m Jake Oxford and I’ll be your tour guide today, firstly I’d just like to ask a few questions for medical reasons, now is anyone here allergic to anything?” After a few no’s replied Jake continued to the next question “Any asthmatics or people with heart conditions?” Again some no’s replied and Jake went on “Ok then, now can you young lady tell me what you would do if you lost the group?” Jake asked pointing to Erin
Erin shrugged shyly and hid behind David.
“Anyone?” Jake asked
Danny stepped forward “You would stay put, sooner or later someone would realise you were missing and they would go back the way they came,”
“Very good, you stay put, now what about if you get lost with a partner and your partner faints?”
“Depending on why they fainted, if it’s from a near drowning experience you perform CPR, if it’s heat stroke you perform D.R.A.B.C.D, etcetera,” Kyle answered. Ruby gently shoved him and smiled.
“I’d get lost with you any day,” She giggled.
“Well done sir, ok that’s all for now I’ll continue asking questions and telling you facts as we go, now if you’d all follow me please,” David, Kyle, Danny, Ruby and Erin followed Jake into the rainforest. They walked along a muddy track until they got to another group of people; they all had cameras and video cameras pointing everywhere.
“I’d appreciate it if everyone stayed behind me and with the group, this is a rare plant species only found in this rainforest,” Jake said as he pointed to a blue and gold bush. Violet started talking again and everyone turned to her. An Asian woman gasped and started taking photos.
“Come on this is so lame,” Danny whispered to Kyle and Ruby, walking into the scrub.
“Danny, no, it’s too dangerous Jake said to stay with the group,” Kyle Replied
“Yeah, sorry Danny, we’ve got to stay with everyone, if we get separated we could get lost,” Ruby added.
Danny shuffled though his bag and pulled out a map and a compass. “What happened to getting lost with me any day? Besides we won’t get lost with this, I spent nearly an hour researching this forest last night and finally got a downloadable map and I grabbed Dad’s good compass, so there’s no way we could get lost,”
Ruby and Kyle looked over at each other, Ruby was really surprised that Danny had gone to so much trouble just so they could run off, it seemed a little weird but Kyle finally gave in, “Whatever, you in Rubes?” He sighed
“Well, I guess so, anything would be better than this,” Ruby grabbed onto a tree and pulled herself over a massive log.
“Wait for me!” Erin whispered following Ruby.
“No, no, you have to stay her Erin, it’s too dangerous!” Danny said pushing Erin gently towards the group.

what does it mean if you have the same nightmare that you had almost 7 years ago.. maybe if i tell you the dream..
okay when i was 8 or 9 i had this dream that a guy snuck through my window and raped me. i woke up screaming but i didn’t really wake up and i couldn’t scream. well next thing i know im sitting in the back of some guys truck. but i couldn’t make out the details of what was going on or who this guy was. all i could see were passing signs and one said 5 miles till grand canyon.. well obviously we went to the grand Canyon and he through me over it. well what my impression of the grand Canyon was i never have really been there before. but anyways. he threw me over and i was falling and falling and finally i hit the ground. but i never died. i woke back up in the hospital where i could still smell the guy.. but when i opened my eyes all i saw was my mom and sister. i asked them where my brother and dad were and all they said is that i told them “to catch the son of a bitch that did this.” and gave them a description…. a year later the same smell entered my area and the same guy came and attacked me again. doing the same thing he did before but this time when i hit the bottom i died. and my dream went blank. and i jumped up screaming in real life… but what does it mean if i had this same dream again but in the dream i was 15. i don’t get it. why would i think about this? please help
First i want to know which one is more important to you & how important are first & last impressions?
Maybe it’s nothing, but I’ve never noticed this before. When I raise my arms and the blood flows down, there are impressions left where my veins are. What is this? Is this normal?

We make up a first impression in a couple of minutes and we will always carry that first impression with us. Although we know there is so much more to a person..
Can we abstain from making first impressions? Or can first impressions be reversed? And why are they still so important?
I bought this computer off amazon.com about a year or two ago. When I bought it, I was under the impression that the hardware in the computer was more than enough to play World of Warcraft well. But even after buying a new power supply and a graphics card, I still only get single digit FPS during a 25 man raid. Most everywhere else in the game runs pretty good but still could be better. Please help! I wanna know if this is a hardware issue, or if there is something else I can do to make this machine run WoW smoothly. And don’t tell me to turn my ingame settings down, because I run them at Good (which is in the middle) and i have even tried turning my in game settings ALL the way down, and it didn’t help any.
