Tim Schafer is one of the most popular game developers in the industry, delivering such classics as Grim Fandango and Psychonauts. So when his studio, Double Fine, announces that it will take to the project start-up site Kickstarter to help receive funding for their upcoming old-school point and click adventure game, Shafer’s fans did not disappoint. Projecting a goal of $400,000 by mid-March, Double Fine has already received $600,000 in funding in 24 hours.
But that’s not all the funding Double Fine is receiving. While they’ll use the Kickstarter money to fund their point and click adventure, some people want more platforming action. Psychic camp platforming action. Zany…platformy…oh hell, we want more Psychonauts!
Enter Notch, creator of Minecraft, who tweeted that he wants to make a sequel Psychonauts happen. He’s serious. In fact, Schafer and Notch are currently talking.
So could we have two dreams come true in one week? Let’s hope. I mean, seriously, look at his pitch video. Why is he not making games at a Call of Duty-esque rate?
