Recently the cult hit Minecraft got an update (details here), it was a fairly unassuming update that mainly addressed some technical bugs. One feature it did bring though was the option of other languages, the game doesn’t contain a lot of text but Mojang went ahead and translated it into 52 different languages. Not by themselves, a large community effort was used to handle a bulk of the translating work.
It seems that one member of this community was set on ruining it for the rest of us, check the screenshot below for the offending article.

Its worth mentioning again that this…. typographical error, wasn’t made by the staff at Mojang. The translation work was done in part by community members. Unfortunately , as you can see, that method has it’s flaws. It may be a quicker way of dealing with a mass of work but you lose some quality control. Mojang have since released a statement apologizing for the error:
Luckily the build that contained this malicious work wasn’t sent out to every single user, it only featured as part of a ‘snapshot build’. Since the early days Minecraft has always had a strong community aspect to it’s development, this practice saves time and creates a solid community but as we’ve seen there can be problems.
It’s heavily unlikely that this will affect Mojang or Minecraft in any serious way in the future, hopefully though they’ll pay closer attention to crowd sourced work.
