Rocksteady, a studio who not only shares a name with a prominent villain within the series, but also a studio that has been the recipient of high praise the past few years for their work on their Batman titles, may possibly be setting their sites on the green teenage fighting machines!
If you a child or teenager in the late 80s and early 90s, then you will know just how big the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were in that time period. Cartoons, movies, action figures, and even a concert tour (yeah, watch it)! They were everywhere. While the franchise is still around, it certainly doesn’t have the same popularity it did 20 years ago.
With recent news that a new live-action TMNT movie was in the works, along with a CGI-based TV show, it seems that Hollywood is gearing up for possibly another wave of Turtle-mania. After Christopher Nolan’s reboot of the Batman movies gave new life to the franchise and Rocksteady capitalizing by creating two of the best Batman games ever produced, it seems as if Rocksteady is looking to repeat history. They seems to have all of the tools in place to create an amazing TMNT video game, as the game would likely feature the same dark, gritty environments seen in Arkham City and the combat system also being used. It almost seems as if the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Rocksteady were a match made in Heaven.
Of course, there may be a problem with this rumor as well. Rocksteady is owned by Warner Bros while the Turtles franchise is currently owned by Nickelodeon and Viacom. It seems as if there would be some legal hurdles to overcome, but anything is possible.
Though none of this has officially been confirmed, with PAX East and E3 coming up in the next few months, it seems entirely possible that Rocksteady could be gearing up for some sort of announcement. In the mean time, let’s all cross our fingers and hope this rumor is true. Stay tuned!
Now I’m gonna go find my “Coming Out of Our Shells” concert VHS.
