CES 2012: SteelSeries Introduces the Ion – Wireless Gaming Controller

Steel Series is one of the leading manufacturer of PC peripherals, known for their high quality and customer-friendly pricing. Today they announced a new product in their line-up, aimed both at the PC market as well as expanding to the ever expanding mobile gaming market.

In partnership with Zeemote Technology, Steel Series today announced the Ion Wireless Gaming Controller. This sleek controller is designed for full PC functionality as well as offering classic control schemes to gamers on touch screen devices such as tablets and phones. Connecting wirelessly via Bluetooth, the controller can be fully customised through it’s own application.
“For PC users, the SteelSeries Ion is a convenient alternative, especially if they want something other than their mouse or keyboard as their tool. And for consumers with tablets and Smartphones, it really is an ideal accessory. Whether you’re sling shooting birds or playing a word game with friends, there are games that are ideal for touch screen. Those types of games however, are not the only games available; there are a number of first-person shooter and RTS games that aren’t downloaded or played as frequently as they could be, because the touch screen doesn’t provide an optimal experience. The SteelSeries Ion provides the advantage for those types of games.”- said Bruce Hawver, SteelSeries CEO.
The slim controller is the size of a deck of cards (roughly 108mm x 55.5mm x 18mm) making it ideal for easy storage and transportation. The controller also boasts a rechargeable lithium battery that can provide up to 20 hours of wireless fun or be used in conjunction with a plug and play kit for unlimited wired use.

Anybody familiar with any of the current generation consoles will quickly and easily get to grips with the Ion as it features the classic twin-stick design that’s become the convention in recent years. To help make it unique  the buttons can be customized via an easy-to-use interface for PC and Mobile devices, allowing for a truly individual gaming experience.

The controller will be released this coming fall with pricing top be announced closer to the release window. For more information on the new controller or other products from the Steel Series line-up then visit the Website, or follow Steel Series on Facebook  and  Twitter
