Spec Ops: The Line Announced for Spring 2012

After teasing us with a countdown last week, 2K Games have finally unveiled the new trailer and release date for Spec Ops: The Line. The game is set to release in spring 2012 and follows the story of Captain Walker- a Delta Force solider on a mission to save the “damned” 33rd squad of the U.S. Infantry.

“Set against the backdrop of a sandstorm-ravaged Dubai, Spec Ops: The Line is 2K’s first foray into the modern military genre, combining its trademark narrative depth with compelling action to move players beyond the simple conflicts of good-versus-bad.”

Spec Ops’ emphasis on narrative should make for a welcome change from the often set-piece focused nature of many other contemporary shooters. 2K President Christoph Hartmann clearly sees the military setting as an opportunity for story telling, “Wartime narratives evoke emotion like few things else in our culture. Players will fight through this hostile environment in Spec Ops: The Line, creating a raw and unique video game experience.

If you feel at all jaded by modern military shooters, then we suggest keeping a very close eye on Spec Ops and its ambitious narrative goals. The game is set to release on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
