Microsoft previewed the new Xbox TV at a financial analyst meeting this week. Some important details were absent though, such as what exactly will be available to watch when the feature launches this holiday season. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer did, however, say that they are working with a plethora of content suppliers to increase the amount of available content.
Xbox TV will not just be limited to video on-demand but will also include live TV. This is pretty nice since cable boxes or satellite dishes wont need to be installed; it all comes from the Xbox.
Microsoft seems to think that what makes Xbox TV different from the competitors is the Kinect. Through voice commands and hand gestures people will be able to find new content with ease. At least, that is Microsoft’s hope. Some of this functionality was shown at this year’s E3 and it works but I personally don’t see myself talking to my TV anytime soon.
