Those who are hoping to get onto the PlayStation Network are going to be out of luck for a bit longer: Sony has unfortunately been forced to reconstruct the entire service.
Literally.
In an update on the PlayStation Blog, SCEA Communications Director Patrick Seybold stated that the rectification processing downtime (which also affects the Qriocity service) is related to the various recent hacking incidents, most notably from Anonymous in relation to the recently-settled hacking litigation against geohot, who (pun intended) had rooted out the root key of the PlayStation 3 console.
“An external intrusion on our system has affected our PlayStation Network and Qriocity services,” explained Seybold, who added that the incident is currently under investigation.
“Providing quality entertainment services to our customers and partners is our utmost priority,” Seybold continued. “We are doing all we can to resolve this situation quickly, and we once again thank you for your patience.
“We will continue to update you promptly as we have additional information to share.”
Sony noted on Thursday that the recent problems could take several days to resolve.
